JOE LOVES    Beach Club Review: Infinite Luxuries Await at Infinitum

We’ve navigated a bitterly cold December and Christmas, but the end isn’t in sight just yet, so we’re thinking happy, sunny thoughts in the form of Infinitum Beach Club, which we visited recently.

Nestled just outside Tarragona, on the beautiful coastline of the Costa Dorada, Infinitum is a haven of relaxation. We were spoilt for choice, with eight different pools to cool off in, each with a different feel ranging from the child-friendly shallows to the infinity pools with unrestricted views of the azure waters of the Mediterranean below.

On arrival, you’re issued a wristband showing which areas of the Beach Club you have access to — there are different tiers depending on what you’re looking for, from family-oriented to access all areas. You don’t need to bring much with you to enjoy your day, as towels are available at the beach club, and there are plenty of food and drink options.

As we were visiting without children, we opted to spend most of our time in the recently opened area known as Pura — an adults-only area of the resort. Pura has a dedicated pool area, with loungers, cabana beds, a jacuzzi pool, a bar and a poolside restaurant serving food and snacks, from fresh salads and fruits to poke bowls and focaccias — all of which were fresh, tasty and well presented.

The area is surrounded by tall trees, which provided some shade from the constant sun – not that we were complaining about that, of course — and created a lovely, calming rustle of leaves, which added to the peaceful vibe.

There are other food options outside of Pura, too. If you’re looking for a light bite or something to share, Gusto offers tapas, sandwiches and salads. Flamma Beach Foodhouse is the place to be for those wanting a more comprehensive meal. Here, there is a fabulous choice of meat, fish and rice-based options to suit a variety of palates.

Infinitum aims to use local products not only for freshness and sustainability but also to showcase the region’s cuisine in all its glory. I can certainly vouch for the locally grown tomatoes — they were an absolute sensation, particularly when warmed by the sun.

If eight pools aren’t enough for you to get fully immersed in, Infinitum also offers private access to Playa Llarga beach. This quiet, unspoilt stretch of golden sand spans around 600 metres and is ideal for a stroll and a paddle after an indulgent lunch.

Infinitum Beach Club: Golf

If restful relaxation is lower on your agenda, you can while away an hour or two on one of the golf courses on-site. The 18-hole Lakes course was designed by Greg Norman and meanders through the collection of 14 natural lakes and wetland areas known as Sequia Major. If you want a more relaxed, shorter round, try Ruins. Also designed by Greg Norman, this nine-hole course winds between sites of archaeological remains that date back to around the second century BC and is surrounded by Carob and Olive trees. Finally, the 18-hole Hills course provides panoramic views of the Mediterranean from its cliffside location. The course combines water hazards, trees and stunning views to create a fabulous golfing experience.

I’m not much of a golfer, but I can heartily recommend taking the time to visit Hills Clubhouse for a relaxing drink or a bite of lunch. Again, the menu had plenty of great options for lunch, but I couldn’t resist the burger — and a good choice it was, too. The clubhouse is above the golf course, with great views you can enjoy while the rest of your party tackles the course. The staff are friendly and attentive, making your time with them very relaxed and enjoyable.

Infinitum Beach Club: Infinitum Living

You can experience the Infinitum Beach Club’s tranquillity through a day pass, or if you’re looking for a more significant commitment to the area, you can purchase one of the purpose-built properties on-site. When we visited, there were around 150 completed units, with a further 2,200 planned to be built over the next 20 years. Available as two, three or four-bedroom apartments — starting at around £380,000 — each is spacious and well-appointed, with access to the beach club and residents-only pools.

Infinitum’s fabulous location has proved popular not only with those seeking a holiday home but also with many looking for a permanent beachside home — more than 20% of the units sold are as first residences.

Infinitum Beach Club: Conclusion

You can keep your predictable chain hotels and unpredictable AirBnBs. Whether you’re seeking a few hours of peaceful retreat from the bustling Spanish streets and beaches or are in the market for your own property, it has something for everyone. From poolside fun and excellent golf courses with tuition to fabulous gastronomic experiences to savour in the sun, Infinitum is most definitely a place to spend time.

It’s not just my opinion, either. The venue recently won the title of Europe’s Leading Beach Club at the prestigious World Travel Awards.

We’ll undoubtedly be pencilling it in again next time we’re in the area.
