One of our favourite interior design houses, Snøhetta, have just announced the latest addition to Sweden’s Treehotel accommodation concept. Like much Snøhetta’s work, the unique hotels blend stunning Scandinavian contemporary design with a closeness to nature. The latest addition to the Treehotel line-up, ‘The 7th Room’, hovers above a forest in the Swedish wilderness, offering incredible views of Lapland.

Snøhetta’s The 7th Room sits 10m above a pine forest canopy in Lapland, Sweden. The way up to the abode is an experience in itself with stairs and landings taking visitors up step by step. Once you reach the top, you’ll find breath-taking views of the Lapland treetops and clear view of the Lule River in the distance.

The 7th Room offers 75 square metres of indoor real estate which features two bedrooms, a social lounge area, a bathroom, and a shower room. But the real show stopper is an exposed netted terrace area which allows users the option of lying face down and looking down through the forest below, or lying back and looking up at the night sky.

The interior is designed with Scandinavian wood and textiles, with the facade of the accommodation consisting of a black, charred wooden surface. All of the windows, which face north, along with the skylights in the bedrooms, allow guests to watch the northern lights completely uninterrupted.

With offices all over the globe, Snøhetta began life in 1989 as a collaborative architectural and landscape workshop, and have remained true to their original trans-disciplinary ways of thinking by creating various designs ‘with a sense of place, identity and relationship to others and the physical spaces we inhabit’.

The Snøhetta ‘The 7th Room’ Treehotel is located right next to a guesthouse in Harads, roughly 50k south of the Arctic Circle. The nearby guesthouse serves breakfast, lunch and dinner in an authentic 1930-1950’s setting, and there’s also a restaurant, bar, and sauna to boot.
