Accompanying the “there is no internet connection” message on Chrome is often the Dns Probe Finished no internet or DNS_PROBE_FINISHED_NO_INTERNET error message. It is an error message that pops up while browsing the web.

The DNS Probe Finished No Internet Error – What It Means

DNS is a Domain Name System service that helps your computer connect to a particular web address. This is what I mean. Computers only understand numbers, that is, IP address. So, when you type a website name in your browser, say tekpip.com, the browser resolves the IP address corresponding to the name using DNS.

If there is any issue in the course of translating host to IP or IP to host, the DNS Probe Finished no internet error will pop up. It might also pop up as a result of a virus infection or a problem with the website you are trying to open. Whatever the reason may be, here are tested working fixes for the DNS probe finished with no internet error.

DNS Probe Finished No Internet Fix 1: Check Internet Connection and Run Basic Solutions

Check to see if your internet connection is working properly. You can restart your PC, Modem, or Router. Then, run a full system scan for malware. You can use a system optimizer to clear cache, cookies, junk, and to fix broken registry entries. Now, restart Windows and try to access that page again. Also, check that your DNS client service is running. To do this:

  • Press simultaneously the Windows icon and R
  • In the run window, type services.msc, then Enter to open windows services
  • Scroll down while searching for a DNS client. Check to see if it’s running, if it is, right-click to restart it but if it doesn’t, double-click on it to change the startup type to Automatic, then start the service next to service status.

DNS Probe Finished No Internet Fix 2: Change DNS to Open DNS

This has proven effective for many who have encountered the DNS probe finished no internet error. To do this on Windows 10, follow the steps below:

  • Right-click on Windows menu, and on the menu, click Network Connections
  • Right-click on Network Connections and on the displayed page, click Properties
  • Locate Internet Protocol Version 4 (IPv4), select it, then, click on Properties
  • You will be provided with two options. To either “obtain DNS server address automatically” or “Use the following DNS server addresses”. Choose the latter and change the values in its field.

To change to Open DNS, input the following values:

Preferred DNS Server: 208.67.222.222

Alternate DNS Server: 208.67.220.220

Tick the box “Validate settings upon exit”, then click OK.

Before starting this process, you might want to exit Chrome, exit totally, and restart it. Now, check to see if you can connect to the internet. If this doesn’t work for you, try fix 3.

Fix 3: Reset DNS or Release and Renew IP Address Using Command Prompt

Type ‘cmd’ in windows search, then, press Ctrl+Shift+Enter to open the command prompt as administrator. Next, type in the following command in the command prompt: netsh winsock reset

Press the enter key and restart your computer. Check if you can connect to the internet. If not, release and renew the IP address. To do this, go to the command using administrator rights as explained above. Once in the command prompt, type the command: ipconfig /release

Then press Enter

Next, type in the following command: ipconfig /renew

Then press Enter again.

The last step is to flush DNS using the command ipconfig /flushdns, then press Enter.

Once it’s done, restart your PC and check to see if the DNS probe finished no internet error is fixed.

DNS Probe Finished No Internet Fix 4: Clear Cache in Google Chrome

To clear cache in Google Chrome, follow these simple steps:

  • At the top right corner, click the three dots, then click Settings
  • Locate Show Advanced Settings on the popup page, then click Privacy Settings >> Clear Browsing History
  • Next, check the boxes Cookies and other site and plugin data and Cached image and files >> then click Clear browsing data
  • Restart Chrome and see if you can now connect to the internet.

Other fixes you can try include uninstalling and reinstalling your browser, rebooting your router, and uninstalling any website filtering software you have on your PC. We hope one of these solutions fixes your DNS probe finished no internet issue.
