Unlike disks, the data stored on your PPC is volitile and you are in danger of losing that data if you lose power to the device. An exception to this is if you have the ability to store some info in the ROM area of your device. Simply put, if your battery loses charge, you lose your data. Here are some tips to help you keep your data safe and sound.

First and foremost - BACKUP YOUR DATA FREQUENTLY. Didn't mean to shout there but alot of people neglect to do this on a regular basis and lose everything when they forget to charge up their PPC. If you don't have a third party application to do this, just use the active sync option to do it. It takes a while but it gets the job done. In ActiveSync on the desktop PC, while the Pocket PC is connected, go to Tools > Backup/Restore > Backup and check Incremental Backup and Automatically Back Up Each Time The Device Connects. This way for sure you know you have a recent backup of your device in event the inevitable happens.

Secondly, and a bit obvious, but always keep your device charged. And if you have a backup battery in the device, make sure it is in good shape. When traveling, don't forget to take your charger and any adapter that you may need if going out of the country.

Keeping a recent backup of your device will save you much headache if your device loses its charge or if you need to do a hard reset. Take heed because it's not if this will happen to you, it's when.
