Fake Mobile Phones in Malaysia

Tags: phone

I'm sure many of us may not realize it but some of us may be carrying fake mobile Phone. I'm using a SonyEricsson t630... no problems thus far but I'm really unsure whether it's an original.

Why am I bringing up this issue? Well, 2 weeks back it was my good friends' birthday... I (and me friends) decided to upgrade her aging Nokia (sorry can't remember the model). I was shopping around Carrefour, Subang Jaya where there were a number of phone shops (on the same floor as the ATMs). I picked one of those shops which I vaguely remember purchasing my t630 from.

The phone I decided on was a Nokia6610i. This model is quite simple, cute and elegent looking. Anyways, I felt that the phone was easy to use as me friend is not that techno-savvy as myself! :)

I bought this phone for about RM530. Took it home, charged it for my friend and realized that the phone wouldn't locate my Maxis service provider... Same goes if I put in a different SIM card. So, the phone was taken back to the phone shop... they replaced it with a new model and that was that. Once the phone got to my friends.... something else happened. The charger of the phone somehow or another broke... hmmmmm quite funny isn't it... (actually I should have considered this as a sign.... ) So again, the phone was taken back and they replaced the charger...

Just today, almost after 2 weeks, my friend quietly told me that she went back to the shop herself to change the phone! According to her... the phone died after 2 hours of using. She actually took the phone to a official Nokia shop and according to them, the phone is fake... FAKE! Battery is fake...

The phone shop at Carrefour refused to refund back the money. More so, they even mentioned that the phones in their shops are not original. Possible all the phone in their shops are not original.. especially with regards to the battery. My friend couldn't get them to budge...

All in all, I believe it would be difficult to 'put the guys behind bars' as the police would not investigate this issue. Talk about customer service in Malaysia...

My advice with regards to buying mobile phones (or all electronic gadgets)... please get them from original authorized shops... even you may be paying extra for that originality.   I know that I won't take any chances....I'm getting my Apple Music Player from a proper Apple Store!
