Irish Defence Forces Recruitment 2018/2019
The Irish Defence Forces launched another general service recruitment campaign for Army and Navy recruits in 2018.
Deadline for Applications is Sunday 7th October 2018
Army applicants were required to be at least 18 years old and under 25 years of age on the closing date for applications.
Naval Service applicants were required to be at least 18 years old and under 27 years of age on the closing date for applications.
Preparing for the Army / Navy Psychometric Tests
As part of the induction process interested candidates that apply will face a series of competitive stages including psychometric assessments. We are Ireland’s No 1. preparation course providers for the selection tests used in Army / Navy recruitment campaigns and have over 30 years of assessment industry experience. Irish Defence Forces Recruitment Process
Process Overview
Defence Force recruitment competitions are held periodically as numbers in the Army or Navy Service are required. Candidates undergo fitness testing, psychometric testing, an interview and a medical before joining the Defence Forces. Potential Candidates must be aged between 18-25 years old at the time of application for Army recruits and between 18-27 years old for Navy recruits. The candidates are required to complete an online application form on www.military.ie
The Fitness Test
All candidates who meet the minimum eligibility criteria will then be invited to attend a Fitness Testing centre, where they will be required to complete the Defence Forces induction fitness test. This is a pass or fail test which will require candidates to perform the following:
- Push up test – 20 in 1 minute (female candidates may complete modified push ups)
- Sit up test – 20 in 1 minute
- Aerobic capacity test – 2.4km run in 11m minutes 40 seconds for males / 2.4km run in 13 minutes 10 seconds for females
The Psychometric Tests
All applicants who are successful at the fitness test phase will be invited to complete Psychometric Testing. Full details of these tests are emailed to all successful applicants after the fitness test phase is complete. In previous recruitment campaigns the online and supervised tests consisted of:
- Understanding of Instructions – Verbal Test
- Numeracy Test
Competency Based Interview
Candidates who are successful at the psychometric tests are asked to attend an interview. The interview is competency based where Candidates are assessed under the following competencies:
- Ability to work under pressure
- Teamwork
- Motivation
- Career Orientation
Medical & Garda Clearance
The top scoring candidates at the Interview will then be called to attend a full medical examination. In conjunction with this all candidates will be security vetted by An Garda Siochana. Candidates will be required to pass both the medical examination and security vetting to be considered for induction.

How to Apply for Irish Defence Forces Recruitment 2018/2019
The Defence Forces is now accepting applications for General Service in both the Army and Naval Service.

Army applicants must be at least 18 years old and under the age of 25 years of age on the closing date for applications.
Naval Service applicants must be at least 18 years old and under the age of 27 years of age on the closing date for applications.
Both Competitions will Launch on MONDAY 10Th September 2018 and will close at 23:59hrs on Sunday 7th October 2018.
When making an application for General Service Recruitment applicants should be aware that the areas of responsibility that applicants apply to are as follows:
1 Brigade – Cork Interview Centre
Cork, Carlow, Clare, Galway, Kerry, Kilkenny, Laois, Limerick, Offaly, Tipperary, Waterford and Wexford
2 Brigade – Dublin/Curragh Interview Centre
Dublin, Cavan, Donegal, Kildare, Leitrim, Longford, Louth, Mayo, Meath, Monaghan, Roscommon, Sligo, Westmeath and Wicklow.
Where possible we will facilitate applicants to conduct fitness testing & interview at a location closest to their home
Cadetships
The Defence Forces are NOT accepting applications for cadetships at this time.

The online application form for enlistment is only available when recruitment competitions are open.
There is NO access to the online application form when recruitment is closed.
