The long ongoing battle between Apple and Google for a unified messaging solution is finally coming to an end. In November last year, Apple had officially confirmed that it was going to bring Rcs Support on iPhone for seamless communication between iOS and Android in 2024. But we didn’t know when Apple would add RCS support until now.
9to5Google managed to find something interesting on the new Google messages webpage about the timeline for RCS for iPhone. This new webpage talks about the benefits of RCS and messaging. The page revealed the expected timeframe for RCS coming to iPhone. The hint is no longer to be found on the page but the info is already out.
As per the 9to5google findings, the RCS is coming to iPhone later this Fall. This means it could be coming to iPhone with iOS 18 or iOS 18.1 update. This timeline is for Public availability which means we could see it in action ahead of public release in a beta build of iOS 18.
RCS adoption will not end the blue bubble and green bubble, but communication with Android phones will be seamless. RCS is a secured and improved version of text messaging that feels similar to social messaging apps with all the necessary features. It includes features like media sharing, react to messages, stickers, emojis, group chats, and more.
Apple has unveiled the dates for its upcoming WWDC event. We can expect Apple to talk about RCS if it’s going to debut with iOS 18. The event is set to take place starting June 10, which means we don’t have to wait much longer to hear directly from Apple. The addition of RCS support on iPhone is much needed because iOS and Android users can’t communicate easily without choosing third party messaging apps. However, this will not going to end the phone discrimination.
