Apple releases watchOS 9.6.1 to the public and watchOS 10 beta 6 to developers

Today, Apple kicked off two new software upgrades for the Apple Watch with one is targeted at users on stable Watchos 9 and the second aimed at watchOS 10 testers. The newest incremental upgrade, watchOS 9.6.1, addresses a crucial issue, whereas the watchOS 10 beta 6 further enhances the upcoming watchOS 10 upgrade. Read on to know more details about the new watchOS software upgrades.

Apple pushes the watchOS 9.6.1 with the API access fix for apps, rolling out with the 20U80 build number. It is a big upgrade and weighs a whopping 2.3GB of data to install. If your Apple Watch is running on watchOS 9.6, then you can easily upgrade to the incremental 9.6.1. Check out the release notes coming with today’s update.

“This update includes a fix for an issue that prevented access to motion data for apps that use the Movement Disorder API to track tremors and symptoms associated with Parkinson’s disease.”

Moving to the watchOS 10 beta 6, then the update comes with the 21R45341c build number. It weighs 288MB in size, which is smaller than the fifth beta. The update is out for Apple Watch Series 4 and later models. Currently, it is limited to the developers, we can expect a new public beta release in a matter of time, which will also be the first public beta for the Apple Watch.

As always, Apple didn’t mention any changes in the official release notes for today’s build, but we can expect bug fixes and system-wide enhancements. This is the release notes coming with today’s update:

watchOS 10 Dev Beta 6

If your iPhone or iPad is running on the latest version of iOS 17 developer beta six, then you can easily sideload the watchOS 10 beta on your Watch.

  1. Open the Watch app on your iPhone.
  2. Tap General > Software Update.
  3. Select Beta Updates and enable watchOS 10 Developer Beta option.
  4. Go back and download the sixth beta of watchOS 10.
  5. That’s it.

Make sure that your Apple Watch is charged at least 50% and connected to a WiFi network. After installing the beta profile, open the Apple Watch app on your phone, head over to General > Software Update > Download and Install, then install the new software.

Now the watchOS 10 beta 6 will download and transfer to your Apple Watch. And after the completion of the installation process, your watch will restart. Once all done, you can start using your Apple Watch.
