Apple begins second public beta rollout of watchOS 10

Last month, Apple kicked off the public betas of iOS 17, iPadOS 17, macOS Sonoma, tvOS 17, and watchOS 10. While dedicated public beta releases were available for every OS except watchOS, Apple Watch owners running on watchOS 10 developer beta received an option to select a public beta update, though no dedicated build was initially offered.

Today, Apple has released the second public beta of watchOS 10, which technically serves as the first public beta. Let’s delve into the features and improvements that the watchOS 10 second public beta brings to the watch.

Apple is pushing the new public beta of watchOS 10 to compatible watches with a 21R5320i build number. It weighs around 545MB in size on my Apple Watch Series 7, which is the same size as the developer beta 4. If your Apple Watch is running on the watchOS 10 public beta, then you may have already received the new update on your watch.

In terms of changes, the official release notes confirm two big changes coming with today’s update which includes the addition of an optimized charge limit feature as well as better estimates for battery levels on the Apple Watch Series 6 (40mm).

  • New Feature
    • Optimized Charge Limit is now available on Apple Watch SE, Series 6, Series 7, and Series 8. See About Optimized Battery Charging on your Apple Watch for more information. (110117793)
  • Resolved Issues
    • Fixed: Apple Watch Series 6 (40mm) estimates maximum battery capacity more accurately. (109589671)

While other features remain the same as the watchOS 10, you can check the complete list of features and other details about watchOS 10 on this page.

watchOS 10 Second Public Beta

If your iPhone or iPad is running on the latest version of iOS 17 second public beta or developer beta 4, then you can easily sideload the watchOS 10 beta on your Watch.

  1. Open the Watch app on your iPhone.
  2. Tap General > Software Update.
  3. Select Beta Updates and enable watchOS 10 Public Beta option.
  4. Go back and download the second public beta of watchOS 10.
  5. That’s it.

Make sure that your Apple Watch is charged at least 50% and connected to a WiFi network. After installing the beta profile, open the Apple Watch app on your phone, head over to General > Software Update > Download and Install, then install the new software.

Now the watchOS 10 second public beta will download and transfer to your Apple Watch. And after the completion of the installation process, your watch will restart. Once all done, you can start using your Apple Watch.
