Tags: phone

Last year, a certain company launched its first Phone and it set up a new bar for a lot of other devices within its similar price range. The brand in talk is called Nothing and they launched the Nothing Phone 1 last year in July. However, only select regions around the world were able to get this new and interesting phone.

With the Nothing Phone 1 turning one this month, the brand has gone ahead and released the successor known as the Nothing Phone 2, the new device is not only available in the regions that it sold previously but is also now going to be sold in the US and the UK. So, if you’re interested and planning to get yourself Nothing Phone 2, it’s ideal to check out and know whether it is the device for you or not.

With the Nothing Phone 2 being released, it’s important to dive into what the device is all about and at the same time, talk about the tech specs, pricing, and also the reasons to buy or avoid the new Nothing Phone 2.

Everyone wants a smartphone that has sensible specifications that make sense not only for the year it has been released but also for coming years as most users keep their phone for more than a year. How Much Does The Nothing Phone 2 Cost

Now that you have the official tech specs for the Nothing Phone 2, it’s time to look at the pricing for the Nothing Phone 2.

  • 8GB RAM and 128 GB ROM: $599
  • 12 GB RAM and 256 GB ROM: $600
  • 12GB RAM and 512 GB ROM: $799

Yes, there is a price increase when you compare the Nothing Phone 1 with the Nothing Phone 2. The price increase is because of not only improved and better cameras but also the flagship SoC from 2022. It could have been better with a newer SoC, but Nothing wants to ensure that the Nothing Phone 2’s price is not too steep as well as the user gets a good performance out of the device for the money they are paying. Also, the Nothing Phone 2 is touted to be a premium smartphone, hence the pricing.

How Many Android Updates Will Nothing Phone 2 Get

Carl Pei the CEO of Nothing has stated that the Nothing Phone 2 will receive up to three years of major Android updates and up to 4 years of security updates. This means the Nothing Phone 2 will get to enjoy all the way up to Android 16 or whatever Android version comes out in 2025.

What’s Inside The Nothing Phone 2 Box

  • User manuals
  • Nothing Phone 2
  • USB charging cable
  • SIM Ejector Tool

You might have noticed that we didn’t mention the charging adaptor or the charging brick. Well, that’s because there isn’t one. You will have to either make do with one that you have and hopefully support the Nothing Phoen 2 or, you simply will have to get yourself a new one.

Nothing Phone 1 vs Nothing Phone 2

Now a lot of users will say that the pricing differences between the phones seem to be the main difference. Of course, there is no doubt about that, but the Nothing Phone 2 also gets a better SoC and it makes use of better cameras from Sony.

The Glyph Interface at the back of Nothing Phone 1 would simply be used as a LED or as a notification when you have someone calling you. In the Nothing Phone 2, you get to have all of it plus you can now see a small progress bar at the back. This will work with certain apps such as food delivery and ride-hailing apps. The progress bar will show you how far or near the product or service is. Also, it will show volume levels when you change volume.

In terms of display brightness, the Nothing Phone 2 blows the Nothing Phone 1 out of the park. Compared to the 700 NITS peak brightness, the Nothing Phone 2 now comes with 1600 NITS peak brightness. This simply makes the Nothing Phone 2 more useable and readable in bright sunlight conditions. The camera sensor on the Nothing Phone 1 came with a Sony IMX 766 while the Nothing Phone 2 comes with a Sony IMX 890. You will see better improvements and camera performance on the Nothing Phone 2 thanks to its improved software integration.

Should You Upgrade to Nothing Phone 2

If you already own Nothing Phone 1 and have questions about whether it is worth upgrading to Nothing Phone 2 or not? Looking at the increase in price and little improvements, it’s not worth upgrading to Nothing Phone 2 if you already own Nothing Phone 1. If you want to get improvements, it’s better to choose a different phone with powerful performance at the same price.

Nothing Phone 2 – Should You Get it?

Overall, the Nothing Phone 2 is a great device and is perfect for those who want a device that has a good enough battery, a brighter display, and better cameras. The Nothing Phone 2 is perfect for those who are on AT&T and T-Mobile’s cellular 5G network. However, for those that are on 4G and use Verizon as well as other MVNOs based on Verizon, you will not be expecting anything great due to the lack of the Nothing Phone 2’s 700 MHz LTE band.

If you are looking to get the Nothing Phone 2 on a contract basis with your service provider, you will have to skip the Nothing Phone 2 only because the phone is available for purchase at Nothing’s official website. This is a great phone for those who watch movies, use social media, and do a decent amount of photography. It’s also a suitable choice for elderly folk who plan to move to a better or newer Android smartphone to perform their usual tasks.

While the Nothing Phone 2 seems to be good, a lot of fo people feel like for the specifications and features that the Nothing Phone 2 has, you could easily opt for other devices that are in a similar price bracket and also give you better features such as much better cameras and charging speeds as compared to the Nothing Phone 2.  While pre-orders for the Nothing Phone 2 are already live, the phone will be released for public purchase on the 17th of July, 2023.

If you feel like the phone is great but are unsure about it, you can always wait for a while, check out reviews on YouTube and from people you know that have got the Nothing Phone 2, and decide for yourself. If you feel the price is a bit out of your set budget, you can always wait for a good sale or festival sale where you can expect the price for the Nothing Phone 2 to drop a little bit.
