ColorOS 13 Supported Devices, Release Date, and Features

Tags: coloros oppo reno

Android 13 is the next major Android version that is currently available in public beta. Android 13 could be released to the public as early as August. As Android 13 is about to release, OEMs like Samsung, Oppo, and OnePlus are gearing up for their Android 13 based custom OS.

Talking about Oppo, Coloros 13 will be based on Android 13. We may see the announcement of ColorOS 13 soon. Well, some of its leaks are already here. So let's talk about ColorOS 13 Supported Devices, ColorOS 13 Release Date, and ColorOS 13 Features.

Oppo is already testing Android 13 on the Oppo Find X5 Pro, but it is a developer preview build. And it is not based on ColorOS 13. Oppo will officially start testing Android 13 based ColorOS 13 only after its announcement, which is going to happen soon. ColorOS 13 pictures and leaks have already started appearing on the internet and this gives us an idea of what to expect from the upcoming ColorOS 13.

OnePlus is now shifting to ColorOS, although it is still called OxygenOS everything including UI and features changing to ColorOS. So don't be surprised if OxygenOS 13 looks a whole lot like ColorOS 13. Android 12 was one of the biggest upgrades in terms of UI changes, but unfortunately, most of its features are not available on Android 12 based ColorOS 12. And so Oppo users might like to see some stock Android flavor, but it all depends on Oppo.

Can Oppo bring dynamic themes like Android 12 and features from Android 13 to Oppo phones? We will have to wait for ColorOS 13 announcement for the answer. And so that being said, let's move on to the release date of ColorOS 13.

ColorOS 13 Release Date

Android 13 is running on its last beta build. This means that stable Android 13 is nearing a public release. This is much quicker than last year's Android 12. And due to the late release of Android 12, the ColorOS 12 was also released late.

But that is not the case this year, and ColorOS 13 is expected to be announced next month in August. After the announcement, Android 13 based ColorOS 13 beta testing will begin for the Oppo Find X5 Pro device.

Like every other OEM, Oppo will be testing ColorOS 13 on its latest flagship phone till it is released to the public on a stable channel. And the stable ColorOS 13 is expected to arrive in October or early November. Well, this is only a rough estimate based on the ColorOS 12 release. But once we have more information we will update the article with the latest information available.

Once the stable ColorOS 13 is released, Oppo will be targeting other flagship phones first, followed by new mid-range and budget phones. And it may even take a year for Oppo to cover all the Oppo phones, considering that there are still some eligible Oppo phones that are yet to receive Android 12.

Now that you have an idea about the release window, let now head to the expected features section.

ColorOS 13 Features (Expected)

ColorOS 13 is expected to come with some new features including UI changes. Well, highlighting the icon changes and some emoji enhancements is not ideal as these are not major changes. But still, OEMs mention it in the announcement event. That being said, ColorOS 13 is also expected to come with some icon changes.

Control Center:

ColorOS 13 will come with major changes to the Control Center also known as Quick Settings. According to some leaks on the Weibo platform, ColorOS 13 will let users choose the shape of the icons present in the Control Center. This is similar to how some launchers offer to change the shape of app icons like circles, squares, etc.

Some controls like WiFi and Internet toggle will be as big as in MIUI 13. Music control will also be present in the new ColorOS 13 Control Center.

Improved Animation:

Oppo keeps on improving the animations of its custom UI with each major release. ColorOS 13 is expected to come with Quantum Animation Engine 4.0 for fluid animation. So switching between apps, opening apps and other animations will be better with it.

Optimized battery performance and low latency:

ColorOS 13 is expected to bring optimized battery performance. So you can expect better battery life in your Oppo phone with the ColorOS 13 update. And another performance related improvement would be lower latency compared to ColorOS 12.

New Charging Animation & Smart AOD:

ColorOS 13 will come with more customization options and one of them will be new charging animation or animations. AOD will also get some new additions on ColorOS 13 which we have also mentioned in the OxygenOS 13 article.

Large Apps folders:

ColorOS 13 will support large app folders on the homescreen. The folder can contain up to 9 apps in the square shape, so three apps in a row. And users will be able to open the app directly without opening the folder first. These folders will be the size of large widgets as you can see in the attached image.

Other changes include the renaming of Oppo Sans to OPlus Sans, set of new wallpapers, a couple of new widgets, and more.

These are some of the expected features of ColorOS 13. There will be more changes and features which we will get to know in the official announcement which will happen soon.
