If you like using torrents on your home computer, there’s no reason why you can not even use them on your Android device. Finding and downloading torrents on an Android device is easy, and above all free. Be aware, however, that just because something is freely available via torrent does not mean it is legally available.

In case you do not know, a torrent is a small file that provides a BitTorrent client with information on where to find and download pieces of a larger file (often a media file or an archived application).

When you open a .torrent file in a BitTorrent client, the client starts downloading and assembling the file. BitTorrent users do not download files from a central location. Instead, they use peer-to-peer file sharing and download thousands of files from dozens, hundreds, or even thousands of different users.

At the end of the torrent download, the complete file will be available on your computer (or device). The torrents are somewhat infamous to ensure free access to pirated music, movies and software.

Often, they are used for completely legitimate purposes. For example, Asus distributes its device driver files via the BitTorrent protocol. Large amounts of non-copyrighted media are also available through this source.

How to download Torrent on Android

Ready to download your Torrent file? To explain how to do this, we will use the app aDownloader, but the process is very similar for any torrent app that you will prefer to use. After the guide you will find the best free torrent apps to download for Android.

1. Go to the Market and download and install the app called aDownloader. Other free options are available, but this app combines ease of use without limitation of downloads.

2. Open aDownloader and configure the location where you want to save your files. Press the gear icon “Settings” in the upper left corner and then tap “Download directory” to set the download location of your torrents.

Unfortunately, there is no drop-down menu to select directories; so you need to enter a path manually. If you are not sure which path to enter, use Astro File Manager or a similar tool to view complete directory paths. But /mnt/sdcard/Download should work for most Android devices. Now you are ready to find and download torrents!

3. Open your browser and visit a torrent site, such as seedpeer.me. Type what you’re looking for in the search box and tap “Search”. I will use “Mozart” as an example.

4. With Seedpeer (as well as many other torrent search engines), the best results are actually advertising. Scroll down to the “Recommended FREE Mozart Download” section and find the section that says “Results for query: mozart”.

5. Find a torrent that looks correct to you and touch its name. (Hint: For best download performance, choose a torrent with a large number in the “Seeds” column. Seeds is a user who shares a particular file in its entirety.)

6. When you click on a Torrent link, you will be prompted to save the torrent on your device or open it automatically with aDownloader. Both methods work and the torrent will start downloading to a previously specified folder.

7. Once the download is complete. Tap the icon of the downloaded file in the notification area, which should show the name of the downloaded torrent.

Helpful hint: using the torrent network is a two-way street. In short, while you are downloading a file via torrents, you are also sharing that file with other users. Once you have finished downloading a file, you can tap the torrent name in aDownloader and then press “Remove activity” to save mega traffic, however we recommend using a Wifi network if available.

TorrDroid

TorrDroid is one of the new torrent applications. It has all the settings that must have an app of this type. This includes support for .torrent files, magnetic links, most protocols, Wi-Fi downloads and more.

It also features a torrent search. However, like most of these apps, the search is questionable and inconsistent. The design is simple and easy to use. The app is free with advertising. Our only complaint is that you can not buy a pro version to remove the ads.

Flud – Torrent Downloader

Flud is one of the most powerful torrent applications. It has a simple and clear interface. This makes it easier to manage large torrents. In addition, the app supports a variety of protocols, magnetic links, support for RSS feeds, support for large files and even a couple of themes.

Download both with wifi and data, you can slow down the band if there are other uploads in progress, you can enable the stop in automatic and you can download directly to external micro sd. The free version contains ads while the pro version no. Both versions do the same thing.

aTorrent is one of the simplest torrent applications. It supports many of the basic features like Wi-Fi only, storage locations, external support for SD cards and more. It also supports various protocols such as BitTorrent P2P, DHT, Advanced DHT, Magnet links and others. Even the Material Design is pleasant. It does not have a lot of features, but it seems to have all the most important ones. It’s free if you do not bother advertising.

Transdrone

Transdrone is a torrent management app for your computer. It allows you to manage your seedbox or your home server from a remote location. The app can start and stop torrents, add torrents, set priorities, view trackers and more.

The most popular clients are supported, including uTorrent, Transmission, rTorrent, BitTorrent 6, Deluge, Vuze, Bitflu, BitComet, Qbittorrent, Ktorrent and Torrentflux-b4rt. Plus Synology, D-Link and Buffalo NAS clients.

The interface is a bit old school for our tastes. However, we can not claim that the app is not functional and stable. There is another version of this app called Transdroid. However, it is only available as a third-party download from the official website.
