MediaTek is now working on 5G networks after Samsung and Qualcomm announced their own 5G Modems with Samsung Exynos 5100 and Snapdragon X50 modem. We even saw many brands like Xiaomi, Oppo already started 5G NR trials with their upcoming smartphones. Now we have the popular SoC MediaTek finally showing off the first 5G support prototype at an event in Taiwan.

MediaTek has now showcased the first 5G prototype at IC60 held in Taiwan. The prototype comes with new Mediatek M70 Modem which will have support for 5G networks. The new MediaTek M70 comes with download speeds up to 5Gbps.

MediaTek M70 chipset currently requires a separate cooling fan as 5G networks require high power, but the company further said that the final product will come with unique low-power design without fans. The new MediaTek M70 will soon hit markets by early 2019.
