New iPad Models Spotted in Regulatory Filings

Apple has registered two new Ipad model identifiers in the Indian BIS certification database, marking the first emergence of new iPad identifiers in quite some time. This discovery comes after a notable hiatus in the iPad lineup, with the last model introduced almost one and a half years ago, the longest interval yet between releases of Apple’s tablets.

While the database entry does not provide detailed specifications of the upcoming devices, it is speculated that they pertain to the new iterations of either the Ipad Pro or iPad Air. According to a previous Bloomberg report, Apple is preparing to unveil new OLED iPad Pro and iPad Air models in early May.

The anticipation for these models is high, fueled by the long wait and the expectation of significant upgrades. Speculation suggests a revamp in the iPad Pro lineup, and a new larger size being introduced for the iPad Air at 12.9 inches. This would align with Apple’s strategy of offering large-screen devices at more accessible price points, a move seen with the introduction of the 15-inch MacBook Air in the Mac series.

The upcoming 11-inch and 13-inch iPad Pro models are rumored to be equipped with M3 chips and OLED displays, a first for these devices. These displays are expected to offer enhanced brightness and contrast compared to the current mini-LED screens.

Additionally, the design of the iPad Pro might see alterations, including a thinner profile and relocation of the Face ID camera to the device’s landscape edge, a change previously introduced with the 10th-generation iPad.

Alongside the hardware updates, new versions of the iPad Pro accessories are anticipated. The Magic Keyboard might feature an aluminum base and a larger trackpad, aiming to provide a closer resemblance to a MacBook. The Apple Pencil is also expected to introduce a new squeeze gesture for expanded control options.

While the iPad Pro models are set to receive the latest M3 chips, the new iPad Air is likely to be upgraded to the M2 chip, from the current M1. Although updates for the iPad mini and the standard iPad are rumored, their release seems more distant, possibly aligning with the year-end holiday season.
