Juice it up and place your sim card

While playing around with your new toy is tempting, you should check the battery level before setting it up. You can either put aside the iPhone while it charges 100% or, if you are too eager, you can set it up while it is charging. The handset must have a healthy amount of charge, and usually, it is more than 50%.

Setting your SIM card in its dedicated slot before setting up the iOS is essential. The box comes equipped with the necessary tool to insert the SIM card. In case you lost, you can always buy a cheap kit online or get it done by a local handset store.

Sign in to your account to customize all features

All smart devices greet their new users with a brief walkthrough to instruct you regarding the setup process. It varies on different smartphones. However, the first thing a smartphone will require you to do is to sign in to your accounts. The process is not mandatory, and you can just as easily skip it. However, it is not recommended to do so as signing in to your account connects your new iPhone with your existing devices. The next step is to visit the App Store, similar to the well-knowing Google Play Store so that you can fill up your new iPhone with games and all the necessary applications. As soon as all your preferred apps are installed and your contact list filled, your signed-in account will synchronize and fill them up with the necessary data automatically.

Set a passcode and enable safety features

Now that your new iPhone is loaded with the necessary data and apps, you should take steps to prevent unauthorized access to it. Your iPhone is the state-of-the-art security enclave for Face ID or Touch ID and comes with in-built security dedicated processor inside the A chip. These include setting up a lock screen that can be a unique pin, pattern, or password.

Pro Tip: Enable the backup feature on your new smartphone. If it ever gets stolen, lost, or breaks, you will have access to your data on the cloud.

Check out the data settings

You have already splurged a ton on your new iPhone, and it won’t be good news if a few months later you were to receive a mobile plan bill. To be on the safe side, it is always better to check out the data usage settings. Check out the apps that will be using most of them and disable usage for applications you will not need.

Pro Tip: While you are in the data usage settings, ensure to set up a limit a little below your monthly plan. The smartphone will send a notification when you max out the limit!

Customize the notifications

iOS loves notifying you of every single update. After setting up the basics, head over to the notification center in settings and customize it to your liking. While it initially feels good, the feature not only becomes annoying but drains your battery quickly. Make sure to turn it off or change it as per your needs, it’s a one-time set.

Pro Tip: Set custom tunes for specific callers. You will not even have to look at the phone to know who is calling you.

Enable location services

While many will advise you against it as it is one of the major contributors to the iPhone running out of battery too quickly, enabling location services can save your device in times of need. If your handset ever gets stolen or lost, all you will need to do is log into your account and track its location.

Moreover, the feature comes in handy when the ‘Photos’ app cataloging your memories. If you are a frequent traveler, your pictures will be tagged with specific locations. They will be automatically organized according to the sites they were taken on.

Now that you have set up your new iPhone, it is time to take advantage of its numerous features. You will no longer be bothered by hundreds of notifications to sign in to the device or enable instructions for particular applications. iOS will maintain itself according to the instructions provided by you.
