Apple launches iPhone 8 Logic Board Replacement Program

Even the best make mistakes.

There have been a very small number of iPhone 8 models with a manufacturing defect in their logic boards which can cause restarts, freezing and generally unresponsive devices.

The models were sold between September 2017 and March 2018 in the US, China, Hong Kong, India, Japan, Macau and New Zealand.

Free repair

But Apple have listened and announced that they are launching a new logic board repair program for the models in question. Users can check if their iPhone 8 are affected by typing their serial number into the website. If they are one of the unfortunate users then they will be eligible for a free repair.

The manufacturing issue does not affect the iPhone 8 Plus or other iPhone models so other users should not worry.

If you are one of the unlucky few, you can make an appointment at any Apple retail store, contact an Apple Authorized Service Provider or arrange for mail-in service through Apple Support.

Apple say that repairs might be restricted to the original country or region of purchase and customers who are affected are recommended to backup their iPhone to iTunes or iCloud before seeking out a repair.

Three year guarantee

Any iPhone 8 that has additional damage that impairs the ability to complete the logic board repair such as a cracked screen will need to be repaired before sending the device back to Apple.

Once a device has been repaired under the program, affected iPhone 8 devices are covered for a three year period after the first retail sale of the unit.
