Up to six new Apple Watch models registered

Apple has registered six brand new Apple Watch model identifiers in the Eurasian economic database ahead of the widely anticipated iPhone event in September.

French website Consomac revealed the operating numbers but not much more about the ‘Series 4’ sextet. The only thing known for sure about the new range is that they will come out of the box with the new updated Apple Watch OS5.

The latest developer beta, version 8, was released for this yesterday and is available for testing. The new features that we already know about the upgraded OS include yoga and hiking being added to workout types, workout stop and start reminders, pace alerts, rolling miles and cadence for outdoor running workouts; Apple Podcast syncing and streaming; a Walkie-Talkie app for direct watch-to-watch communication; grouped notifications and more to come.

The Apple Watch model numbers identified are A1977, A1978, A1975, A1976, A2007 and A2008. They only vague descriptions are that they are ‘personal wearable electronic devices’ but we that doesn’t reveal a whole lot else.

Although dry, Eurasian regulatory filings are an accurate guide to new Apple products and have been the first public identifiers for the iPhone 7, Apple Watch Series 2, Airpods.

Tick tock

Based on previous designs and history, each model will have two sizes for the series 4 although the Series 3 differed by having eight models, 3 cellular options and a GPS only model.

We won’t know for sure until the launch event although seasoned Apple Watch-er (see what we did there?) Ming-Chi Kuo thinks that the Apple Watch will get a major chassis redesign with a larger screens and less bezel on all models. The screens are rumored to be approximately 15% larger, 1.57 and 1.78 inches diagnoally respectively.

It’s a smart move to shrink the bezels to maximize the screen without making the watches bigger or heavier themselves. We can’t wait to see if Apple manage to pull it off.
