Apple’s efforts to make it easier for app developers continues with their recent purchase of Buddybuild, an app tools startup. Buddybuild describes itself as a “mobile reiteration platform” that is focused on continuous integration and debugging tools, giving app developers a simple workflow to introduce their apps into the world via GitHub, GitLab or BitBucket.

Vancouver-based Buddybuild was founded in 2015 by former Amazon employees Dennis Pilarinos and Christopher Stott. Since its establishment, the startup has managed to raise around $8.8 million.

The startup noted this move in a blog post and although no financial terms have yet been disclosed, Apple has informed TechCrunch that they will be employing around 40 engineers.

Buddybuild should integrate well into Apple’s existing set of tools, bringing additional methods for testing, debugging and deploying mobile apps through a proprietary channel. Although Apple’s iPhones have continued to be outstripped by devices powered by Google’s Android, they still generate considerably more revenue from apps. However, with Google outstripping Apple in terms of downloads, you can see why the company may want to make its platform and app tools developer-friendly, adding features such as Buddybuild that make it easier to use.
