New ‘iPhone 8’ camera features revealed

In a post on AppleInsider, Apple supplier Largan has confirmed the shipping of 3D sensors, which may be included in the ‘iPhone 8’.

The 3D sensors will be capable of facial and iris recognition and the ‘iPhone 8’ is likely to be the only phone to ship them this year.

The article reports in detail the new feature:

“According to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo of KGI Securities, who has a strong track record in predicting Apple’s future product plans, the so-called “iPhone 8″ will include an infrared transmitting module and infrared receiving module with its forward-facing FaceTime camera. According to Kuo, the new system will enable the camera to accomplish 3D sensing and modeling, as well as advanced biometric.”

This will enable the forward facing Camera to achieve 3D sensing and modeling and the infrared receiving model will allow the camera to better detect changes in light.

In an article published in February, AppleInsider claimed the phone would be unlike anything else currently available, however, it is likely other phones will begin to compete on a similar level within a year or two.

The ‘iPhone 8’ has also been rumored to include an OLED display with glass back and as well as wireless charging and is thought to be waterproof.  Other phones are already succeeding in this area with the Samsung Galaxy S8 able to remain underwater up to 1.5 meters for 30 minutes.
