The Verdict

Key Takeaways

  • Quality-of-Life Improvements: Enhances the user experience in multiple ways.
  • Satisfies a Wide Audience: Ideal for both newbies and experienced vapers.
  • Industry Leader: Reinforces why Pax remains a top player in the cannabis vaporizer market.

The Pax Plus may not be revolutionary, but it certainly brings a host of quality-of-life improvements to the table, building momentum from where the PAX 3 left off. From my experience, it’s a reliable, efficient, and user-friendly device.

Whether you’re new to Vaping or have been around the block, the Pax Plus does a lot of things right but I think its main USPs are how easy it is to use, its consistent performance/flavor production, and its compactness.

If you want something simple and reliable, the PAX Plus is going to be a great fit for you.

PAX Plus Review

Being the top dog in any industry is a double-edged sword. In the world of weed vaporizers, Pax has been the brand to beat.

I say, beat, but what I really mean is “out market”, you see PAX doesn’t make the best vaporizers but it is one of the best companies at marketing.

It scores positive reviews and brand appeal by targeting huge tech sites like WIRED for maximum exposure, where the site’s domain authority is oftentimes better than its reviewing process.

This is what JUUL did too (and JUUL was created by PAX Labs, lest we forget).

PAX vaporizers like the PAX 3 are very good, mind. They’re just not quite as good as some of the competition. The PAX Plus aims to remedy this by adding in more functionality and some new features.

But does it succeed? Or are you better off with one of the other best weed vaporizers on the market? I just spent 12 months with the PAX Plus to find out…

What’s Good About the Pax Plus?

For me, the main benefit of the PAX Plus – like all PAX vaporizers – is that it’s simple to use, compact, and it works very consistently, providing you stay on top of maintenance.

For the beginner, it is idiot-proof. You load the oven, do the settings, and start vaping. It literally could not be any simpler.

It’s small enough to fit in any of your pockets and PAX makes a range of accessories for expanding its portability, changeability, and capabilities.

For hassle-free vaping that is smooth and to the point, without any additional bells and whistles, the PAX Plus, like its predecessor, the PAX 3, is a brilliant vaporizer for first time users.

User-Friendly Experience

Key Takeaways

  • User-Friendly: No need for a separate app; four built-in modes make it easy to use.
  • Visual Cues: Unique LED light combinations for each mode.
  • Mouthpiece Button: All controls accessible via a single button on the mouthpiece.

When I first got my hands on the Pax Plus, one of the first things that struck me was how user-friendly it is. If you’ve ever used the Pax 3, you’d know that it required an app for optimal customization.

But with the Pax Plus, that’s a thing of the past. Apple’s restrictions on vape-related apps might have been a blessing in disguise for Pax, pushing them to innovate.

Built-In Modes

The Pax Plus comes with four built-in modes that cater to different vaping preferences:

  1. Stealth Mode: This is perfect for those moments when you want to be discreet. The vapor is minimized, and the LED lights are dimmed.
  2. Efficiency Mode: If you’re looking to conserve your cannabis while still getting a good vapor output, this is the mode for you. It optimizes vapor production while using less material.
  3. Flavor Mode: For the connoisseurs who want to savor the distinct flavors of different strains, this mode offers on-demand vapor that highlights the flavor profiles.
  4. Boost Mode: This is for those who want maximum vapor delivery, especially when using concentrates.

Switching between these modes is a breeze. All you have to do is press the mouthpiece button, which also serves as the device’s only button.

Each mode is represented by a unique LED light combination, making it easy to know which mode you’re in at a glance.

The built-in modes eliminate the need for constant adjustments, making the Pax Plus an excellent choice for both first-time users and experienced vapers.

The modes are not just gimmicks, either: it genuinely makes it a better vaporizer than the PAX 3.

So, if you’re looking for a device that offers a tailored vaping experience without the hassle of using an external app, the Pax Plus is a solid choice.

Visual Upgrades

Key Takeaways

  • Brighter LEDs: Enhanced clarity for better mode identification.
  • Color-Matched Mouthpieces: Adds a layer of customization and style.
  • Overall Styling: Minor but meaningful improvements that enhance user experience.

When I first got my hands on the Pax Plus, the brighter and clearer LED lights immediately caught my attention – it is markedly brighter than the PAX 3’s. This isn’t just about aesthetics, though: it’s actually all about making it more functional.

The enhanced clarity of the LEDs makes it easier to identify which mode you’re in, especially in dim lighting. It’s a subtle but impactful upgrade over the Pax 3’s LEDs.

But the LEDs aren’t the only thing that got a style upgrade.

The Pax Plus now comes with color-matched mouthpieces. While this might seem like a minor aesthetic tweak at first, it actually adds a layer of personalization to your vaping experience. You can now match the mouthpiece to your style or even your mood, making the device feel more like ‘yours.’

These changes, although they might seem minor, collectively contribute to a more refined and, overall, simpler vaping experience. The devil’s always in the details and while the PAX Plus’ feature set isn’t extensive, the little changes that PAX has made add up to big changes in its usability.

Consistent Performance

VIEW LATEST PRICES

Key Takeaways

  • Quick Heat-Up: Ready to use in about 20 seconds.
  • Long Battery Life: Up to 2.5 hours of use on a single charge.
  • Consistency: Maintains the strong features of its predecessor, the Pax 3.

When I used the Pax Plus, one of the first things I tested was the heat-up time. Just like its predecessor, the Pax 3, it was ready to go in about 20 seconds.

This quick warm-up time is crucial when you’re looking for an immediate vaping experience, and it’s great to see that the Pax Plus delivers on this front.

Another feature that stood out was the battery life. The device offers up to 2.5 hours of use on a single charge. This is particularly impressive and aligns with what the Pax 3 offered.

It’s enough for multiple vaping sessions, making it ideal for both short and extended periods of use. I just wish PAX would switch over to USB C. The propriety charging has and continues to be one of my least favourite aspects of using PAX vaporizers.

Efficiency

Key Takeaways

  • Enhanced Vapor Production: More puffs from the same amount of cannabis.
  • Efficient Use: Better utilization of material compared to the Pax 3.
  • Possible Placebo: The increased efficiency could be a perception, but it’s noteworthy.

During my time with the Pax Plus, I noticed something interesting: it seemed to be more efficient in vapor production compared to the Pax 3.

I found myself getting more puffs with the same amount of cannabis. This is a significant point because it means you could potentially use less material for the same effect, making your cannabis supply last longer.

Now, it’s worth mentioning that this could be a placebo effect. It’s possible that the perception of getting more puffs is influenced by the device’s newness or other psychological factors.

However, even if it is a placebo, the fact that I felt like I was getting a more efficient experience is worth noting.

So, whether it’s an actual improvement in efficiency or just a perception, the end result is a feeling of getting more bang for your buck. And in the world of vaping, where efficiency can often be a deciding factor, this is a point in the Pax Plus’s favor.

Modular Adaptability

Key Takeaways

  • New Accessories: 3D oven screens, a redesigned multi-tool, and a wire brush included.
  • Easier Cleaning: Simplifies the process, especially after using sticky concentrates.
  • Improved Over Pax 3: Notable ease-of-maintenance advantages compared to its predecessor.

One of the standout features of the Pax Plus for me was its focus on ease of maintenance. The device comes with new 3D oven screens, a redesigned multi-tool, and a wire brush.

And these aren’t just random add-ons, they’re all really useful additions that I actually found myself using a lot during my time with the PAX Plus.

If you’ve ever dealt with the aftermath of vaping sticky concentrates, you know cleaning can be a chore. The new 3D oven screens and the wire brush make this process significantly easier.

I found that residues that would normally take some elbow grease to remove came off more easily.

The redesigned multi-tool is another thoughtful addition. It’s more ergonomic and effective in scooping out used material from the oven, making the cleaning process even more straightforward.

Compared to the Pax 3, which I found to be a bit more cumbersome to clean, especially after using concentrates, the Pax Plus clearly has the upper hand in this department. Big time.

Oh, and another important thing? The Pax Plus comes with the concentrate insert too. With the PAX 3 it was an added accessory that cost $50!

What’s Not Ideal About the Pax Plus

Price Point

The Pax Plus retails for $250, which is on the higher end for a portable vape. While you’re paying for quality and design, it’s a significant amount of money for a vaporizer with its level of performance.

For a little extra, you could be using the Mighty Vaporizer and that thing is an utter monster – both with respect to battery life and overall performance. It runs rings around the Pax Plus. Ditto the Crafty+ vaporizer which we compared to the PAX 3 not long ago.

Incremental Upgrades

Key Takeaways

  • Incremental Upgrades: Quality-of-life improvements rather than game-changers.
  • Consideration for Pax 3 Owners: May not offer a dramatically different experience.
  • New vs. Old: Weigh the benefits if you’re thinking of upgrading from the Pax 3.

After spending time with the Pax Plus, it became clear that the improvements over the Pax 3 are more about enhancing the user experience rather than reinventing the wheel.

These are quality-of-life updates that make the device easier to use, clean, and maintain.

If you already own a Pax 3, this puts you in a unique position.

The Plus might not offer a dramatically different experience that justifies the cost of an upgrade. The core functionalities like heating speed and battery life are consistent between the two models.

The new features are nice, but they’re not revolutionary.

So, if you’re a Pax 3 owner contemplating the upgrade, you’ll need to weigh these incremental improvements against the cost and decide if they offer enough value for you.

While new users will undoubtedly benefit from these enhancements, existing Pax 3 users might find the Plus to be more of a refined version of what they already have.

Alternatives

If the Pax Plus is out of your budget, consider the Pax Mini. Priced at $150, it offers similar styling and performance but lacks some features like modular adaptability.

Other brands like Arizer Solo II and Zeus Arc also offer good alternatives at a lower price point. Or, if you prefer using 18650 batteries in your weed vaporizer, go with either the DaVinci IQ 2 or the DaVinci IQC. Both are excellent options, in my opinion.

The Pax Plus may not be revolutionary, but it certainly brings a host of quality-of-life improvements to the table. From my experience, it’s a reliable, efficient, and user-friendly device.

Whether you’re new to vaping or have been around the block, the Pax Plus is designed to meet a variety of needs and preferences.

In a market that’s constantly evolving with new technologies and features, it’s easy for a brand to lose its edge. However, the Pax Plus shows that Pax isn’t resting on its laurels.

By focusing on incremental but meaningful improvements, Pax has managed to create a device that not only builds on the success of the Pax 3 but also reinforces its position as a leader in the cannabis vaporizer market.
