Motorola Edge 40 Neo goes official with Dimensity 7030

Motorola Edge 40 Neo is the latest member of the Edge 40 series and the most affordable one. As the name suggests, this is a toned-down version of the Motorola Edge 40, which was launched in May with a curved display, IP68 rating, Dimensity 8020 chipset, and more for €549.  The Edge 40 Neo costs €399 and launches in the Indian market on September 21 (the price is expected to be under ₹25,000).

The design is one of the highlights of this phone. It looks identical to the Motorola Edge 40 with that curved display, a square camera module with dual cameras, a vegan leather finish on the rear, stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos, and an under-display fingerprint scanner. The three colors are Caneel Bay, Black Beauty, and Soothing Sea, all of which are Pantone colors, hence the Pantone branding on the back.

Like the Edge 40, there is IP68 certification for protection against water and dust. But, the phone lacks wireless charging support, which the Edge 40 has.

There are some similarities in the specifications as well. Motorola Edge 40 Neo has the same 6.55-inch 10-bit pOLED display with up to 144Hz refresh rate, HDR10+, and a Full-HD+ resolution. The peak brightness is 1300 nits, and the panel has Gorilla Glass 3 protection.

The camera setup is almost identical, too – a 50MP primary camera with OIS, a 13MP ultrawide/macro/depth camera, and a 32MP selfie camera. While the Motorola Edge 40 has a primary camera with an f/1.4 lens, the Edge 40 Neo has an f/1.8 lens. Also, while the Edge 40 can shoot 4K 30fps videos from the selfie camera, the Edge 40 Neo can only shoot up to 1080p 60fps videos.

As for the differences, the most significant difference is in performance. Motorola Edge 40 Neo gets the MediaTek Dimensity 7030 chipset, compared to the Dimensity 8020. Motorola mentions LPDDR5 RAM on the official website, whereas Edge 40 has LPDDR4X RAM. But, the storage type is uMCP for the Edge 40 Neo and UFS 3.1 for the Edge 40.

The battery is bigger in the Edge 40 Neo – a 5,000mAh unit, compared to 4,400mAh. The charging speed is the same at 68W, and as mentioned above, there is no wireless charging support for the Neo. Finally, Android 13 runs out of the box.

Motorola Edge 40 Neo with 12GB RAM and 256GB storage is priced at €399.
