Samsung Galaxy S23 FE spotted on TENAA with images & specs

In June, we got the unofficial renders of the Samsung Galaxy S23 FE, revealing a similar design language to the Galaxy S23 series. This phone is the successor to the Galaxy S21 FE, which featured the Exynos 2100/Snapdragon 888 chipset, a 120Hz AMOLED display, triple cameras, and more. The Galaxy S23 FE has now appeared on the Chinese certification agency, TENAA. This listing reveals the final design and also the specifications.

As we can see, the phone does look the same as the unofficial renders revealed. There is a triple camera setup on the rear without any camera island, a flat display on the front with a hole punch cutout in the middle, and a rounded frame. As per TENAA, the device’s weight is 210g, quite a jump from the 177g Galaxy S21 FE. The phone is also wider (76.5mm vs. 74.5mm), taller (158.0mm vs. 155.7mm), and thicker (8.2mm vs. 7.9mm) than the Galaxy S21 FE.

Before you attribute this increase in the weight and thickness to a bigger battery, it is worth mentioning that the TENAA listing reveals a rated battery capacity of 4370mAh, which means a typical battery capacity of 4,500mAh. So, there is no change in the battery size when compared to the S21 FE. So, the only reason for the increase in the thickness and the weight should be the use of glass on the back instead of plastic. The Galaxy S21 FE had a plastic back and an aluminum frame.

The phone has a 6.4-inch Full-HD+ 120Hz 8-bit AMOLED display, which resembles the S21 FE. The fingerprint scanner sits under the display.

As for the performance department, the TENAA listing reveals the maximum CPU clock speed as 2.99GHz. The phone is said to feature the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 or the Exynos 2200 chipset, depending on the region. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 has an octa-core CPU clocked at up to 3.0GHz, whereas the Exynos 2200’s CPU goes up to 2.80GHz. So, it makes sense that the one listed on TENAA is the Snapdragon version.

The phone has 8GB RAM and 128GB or 256GB storage.

Speaking of cameras, the Samsung Galaxy S23 FE has a triple camera setup on the rear. The primary camera has a 50MP sensor, the ultrawide camera has a 12MP sensor, and the 3x telephoto camera has an 8MP sensor. So, it looks like Samsung is finally upgrading the primary camera sensor on its FE series since we have seen the same 12MP sensor on the S20 FE and the S21 FE.

The phone has a 10MP sensor for selfies, compared to a 32MP sensor on the S21 FE. We have seen 10MP selfie cameras on premium Samsung phones like last year’s Galaxy S22 & S22 Plus, so the S23 FE may have the same sensor.

And well, that’s all about the Samsung Galaxy S23 FE. The specifications are not bad, but they depend on real-world reviews. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 is known for its heating issues, as is the Exynos 2200. The Exynos 2200 has even more issues than the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1.

The Galaxy S21 FE was launched at $699 / £699 / ₹49,999, so let’s see at what price Samsung launches the Galaxy S23 FE.
