The Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 is the next flagship SOC by Qualcomm, launching in November or December this year. This chipset will power a majority of Android flagships in 2024.

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 was built on the TSMC’s 4nm process and featured a CPU with a prime Cortex-X3 core clocked at up to 3.2GHz. Later, in the Galaxy S23 series, Samsung used a slightly overclocked version of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 and called it the “Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for Galaxy”. The main difference was in the maximum clock speed of the prime Cortex-X3 core (3.36GHz vs 3.2GHz).

Today, we have the first benchmark scores of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, shared by MySmartPrice. The chipset was benchmarked on Geekbench while powering a Samsung device with the model number “SM-S926U”. This is most likely the model number of the Galaxy S24 Plus since the Galaxy S23 Plus has the model number “SM-S916U”.

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 3-powered device scores 2233 points on single-core, and while that sounds like a minor improvement over the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2/Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for Galaxy, the multi-core score has increased significantly. The upcoming chipset scores 6661 points on multi-core, which is better than the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for Galaxy and a lot better than the multi-core score of the MediaTek Dimensity 9200+.

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 has higher single-core & multi-core scores than Apple’s A16 Bionic chipset, which shows how powerful this upcoming SOC will be.

Geekbench also confirmed the CPU’s core configuration. There were already reports of an unusual 1 + 3 + 2 + 2 core configuration, confirmed in this new benchmark report. There is a prime Cortex X4 core clocked at up to 3.30GHz, three Cortex-A720 cores clocked at up to 3.15GHz, two Cortex-A720 cores clocked at up to 2.96GHz, and finally, two Cortex-A520 cores clocked up to 2.27GHz.

The GPU is Adreno 750.
