Threads Login – Threads.net Login step-by-step guide

Tags: threads

If you’re not living under the rock, you probably know about “Threads.” This is a new app from Meta (aka Facebook), which, as the name suggests, lets you share text updates and also respond to public conversations. If that sounds confusing, the simplest way to explain Threads is that it is a “Twitter” clone from Meta. In a short span, this app has gained so much popularity that it now has over 100 Million users. All this happened in less than five days, making it the fastest-growing app in history!

So, if you are on this page, you probably want to start with Threads. Well, this guide is for you.

HOW TO LOGIN TO THREADS?

Well, it is worth mentioning that at this point, Threads is only available as a mobile application for both Android & iOS. So, you cannot do a Threads.net Login via their website.

But, what many people may not know is that you can still visit someone’s profile on the web. For that, you need to know the username, which should be the same as their Instagram username. And once you have that, you need to put that username behind “https://www.threads.net/” in the browser, and that’s it.

For example, suppose someone has the username “elonmusk” on Instagram. To open their Threads profile on our PC, we must go to this URL – “https://www.threads.net/@elonmusk.” If the user has not signed up on Threads, then you will see the “Sorry, this page isn’t available” message on the screen after you visit the mentioned URL.

Threads Login

Anyways, coming back to the Threads Login topic, if you have installed the iOS or Android app on your phone, then once you open it, you will get the option to Log in with Instagram because, as we mentioned above, the Threads account is connected to your Instagram account.

This means your username and verification data are carried over to Threads, so if you have a Blue tick on Instagram, it will show up on Threads too.

Threads feed

And well, that’s pretty much all that you need to do to Log in to Threads. There is no signup process where you must enter all your details, such as your name, username, email, password, date of birth, etc. Since the Threads account is connected to your Instagram account, it will automatically fetch your data from Instagram.

At first glance, the feed will make you feel like you have opened Twitter, but that’s normal because Threads is a Twitter alternative only. So all the usual Twitter features are here, such as following others, mentioning someone, replying to someone, reposting (same as retweeting), writing a thread, and so on. Currently, Thread allows each post to have up to 500 characters, and you can include links, photos, and videos up to 5 minutes in length.

If you are under 16 (or under 18 in some countries), when you log in to Threads, your profile will default to “Private.”

SHARING POSTS ON OTHER PLATFORMS

Thread share options

The share button on each post on Threads lets you quickly share the post on your Instagram story or add it to your Instagram feed or tweet it on Twitter. Even more share options are hidden in the “Share via” option. If you want to copy the link to the particular post on Threads, you can do so via the “Copy link” option.

HOW TO CONTROL WHAT YOU CAN SEE?

Threads hidden words

When you open the Threads app, it doesn’t always show posts from people you follow. Like other social media apps, Threads shows you content from pages and people you may not be following. And sometimes, there is some content that you don’t want to appear on your Threads feed. You can control that on Twitter by blocking specific words such that tweets containing those words are automatically hidden from your Twitter feed.

Well, Threads offers the same feature, so you can specify what words should be hidden, and this will ensure that you won’t see the posts containing those words. Not just posts, but if you get a reply containing any such term, then that will also be hidden.

Another thing you can control is who can mention you on Threads because you won’t want random people mentioning you. For that, you can control whether no one can mention you or only those who you are following or everyone.

WHAT IS ACTIVITYPUB AND HOW IT RELATES TO THREADS?

Upon going through the Threads news, you might’ve encountered a term called “ActivityPub.” Even Meta has mentioned it in its official Threads announcement post. But what is ActivityPub, and how is it related to Threads?

Before we discuss that, it is essential to understand what W3C is or the “World Wide Web Consortium.” The W3C community develops standards and guidelines for the World Wide Web. The W3C was founded in 1994 by Tim Berners-Lee, who invented the World Wide Web. The standard and guidelines ensure consistency across the World Wide Web.

Returning to “ActivityPub,” it is a “decentralized social networking protocol.”It allows different social media platforms and online services to talk to each other and share information. It’s like a common language or set of rules that they all agree to follow.

Think of it as a big party where people from different countries unite. Each person speaks a different language and has their way of doing things. ActivityPub acts as a translator and organizer at the party. It helps everyone communicate and understand each other, regardless of their native language.

With ActivityPub, social media platforms can send messages and share updates. For example, if you post something on one platform, ActivityPub allows that post to be shared on other platforms. It creates a network of interconnected platforms, making it easier for users to connect and share content across different services.

The great thing about ActiVityPub is that it promotes decentralization. This means that no single company or entity controls all the platforms. Instead, each platform operates independently but can still interact and share information through the ActiVityPub protocol.

Threads is currently incompatible with “ActivityPub,” but Meta says they are working on making it compatible. Some platforms are already using “ActivityPub,” for example, Mastodon.

CONCLUSION

Well, Threads is quite an exciting platform that, while being a Twitter clone, seems to be the next big thing in social networking.

With Threads, the possibilities are endless, and the future of social media looks brighter than ever. So let’s embrace this new chapter and embark on a journey where conversations flourish, and connections thrive.
