Motorola Razr 40 & Razr 40 Ultra launched in India

A month after the launch in the global market, Motorola launched its Razr 40 duo in the Indian market today. The Motorola Razr 40 was launched globally at €799, translating to around ₹71,000. But, in the Indian market, the phone launched at ₹59,999. Similarly, the Razr 40 Ultra, launched globally at €1199 or over ₹1,00,000, has launched in India for ₹89,999.

And these Indian prices are without including any bank offers. If we include those, the Razr 40 can be bought for as low as ₹54,999, and the Razr 40 Ultra for ₹82,999.

Both phones come in a single storage configuration – 8GB + 256GB.

MOTOROLA RAZR 40

The Razr 40 is an affordable clamshell foldable from the brand, evident from that tiny cover display. There is a vegan leather texture outside and a 7000-series aluminum frame. The cover display has a Gorilla Glass Victus protection. The phone has an IP52 rating and weighs 188.6g. When unfolded, the thickness is 7.35mm; when folded, it is 15.8mm.

Under the hood, the Razr 40 has the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 SOC, paired with LPDDR4X RAM and UFS 2.2 storage. This mid-range chipset launched in May 2022 and is built on the 4nm process.

The battery is 4,200mAh, and the phone supports 30W wired charging and 5W wireless charging.

The cover display is a 1.5-inch AMOLED with up to 60Hz refresh rate, 1000 Nits Peak Brightness, and 194 x 368 pixels resolution. It can show stuff, including quick setting toggles, music controls, date and time, weather, notifications, etc.

The foldable display is a 6.9-inch LTPO AMOLED with up to 144Hz refresh rate,  1400 nits peak brightness, 10-bit colors, and HDR10+ support. It is a Full-HD+ display with a resolution of 2640 x 1080 pixels.

The fingerprint sensor sits on the side and doubles as the power button. There are stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos support.

The hinge uses a teardrop design, helping to reduce the crease and almost no gap when the phone is closed.

There are two cameras on the outside. The primary camera has a 64MP sensor with OIS and an f/1.7 lens. The secondary camera has a 13MP sensor with an f/2.2 ultrawide/macro lens. The selfie camera on the inside has a 32MP sensor with Fixed focus. The front and rear cameras can shoot up to 4K 30fps videos.

Finally, Android 13 runs out of the box with MyUX on top.

MOTOROLA RAZR 40 ULTRA

The Motorola Razr 40 Ultra is the premium clamshell foldable from the brand, featuring a huge cover display, the largest among all the clamshell foldable phones in the market. This is a 3.6-inch AMOLED display with HDR10+ support, up to 144Hz refresh rate, 1100 nits peak brightness, and 10-bit colors. The resolution is 1066 x 1056 pixels, and the pixel density is 413 PPI. This cover display can run almost any app and force some apps to run on this screen size. So, you won’t have to open the phone to do even the basic tasks like replying to someone or having video calls, etc.

As for the build quality, the Razr 40 Ultra uses a 7000-series aluminum frame and Gorilla Glass Victus protection for the cover display. The Black color option has Gorilla Glass Victus for the rest of the body, whereas the Magenta color option has Vegan Leather. The phone is IP52 certified.

Even though this is a premium clamshell foldable of 2023, Motorola went for the last year’s Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 SOC in this phone. This chip is paired with LPDDR5 RAM and UFS 3.1 storage. The battery is smaller than the Razr 40 at 3,800mAh, which is disappointing considering the Razr 40 Ultra’s huge 144Hz cover display, which will drain the battery faster than the tiny 60Hz cover display on the Razr 40.

The wired charging speed is the same at 30W, and the wireless charging speed at 5W.

The dual camera setup includes a 12MP sensor with an f/1.5 lens, 1.4-micron pixels, and OIS. The second camera has a 13MP sensor for ultrawide/macro shots. The selfie camera has a 32MP sensor. All three cameras can shoot up to 4K 30fps videos.

Both the phones will go on sale on July 15.
