The Asus Zenfone 9 was an interesting phone last year. It was different from all the other flagships in the market because it was a compact flagship. The phone had the best SOC that was available at that time, the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1. It also featured a 4,300mAh battery and had an incredible battery life. Today, Asus launched the successor, the Zenfone 10. The Asus Zenfone 10 is almost the same phone as Zenfone 9 in terms of design but gets some significant upgrades in specifications.

Design-wise, the Zenfone 10 is offered in five color options, compared to four in the case of the Zenfone 9. Four of the five color options are the same as last year, but there is a new Green color this time. Also, while the four color options are the same as last year, the colors look more vibrant this year. There are flat sides, a side-mounted fingerprint sensor with support for various gestures and shortcuts, Gorilla Glass Victus on the front, a polycarbonate back cover, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and stereo speakers.

This year, Asus has also added wireless charging support, which the Zenfone 9 did not have. The Zenfone 10 is IP68 certified.

On the front, Asus Zenfone 10 features a 5.9-inch AMOLED display with up to 144Hz refresh rate and 1100 nits peak brightness. The 144Hz refresh rate is only available during gaming by enabling the “Game Genie.” So, consider this the same 120Hz display that the Zenfone 9 had.

Under the hood, Zenfone 10 has the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset (3.2GHz), paired with LPDDR5X RAM and UFS 4.0 storage. The battery size remains the same at 4,300mAh, as does the wired charging speed at 30W. The phone supports up to 15W Qi wireless charging. The Zenfone 9 was already a battery champ, and with a newer and more efficient chip, there is improvement in the battery life, even though the capacity is the same. Asus claims up to 12.9% better battery life on the Zenfone 10 versus the Zenfone 9.

Coming to the cameras, Asus Zenfone 10 has a dual camera setup on the rear. The primary camera has a 50MP Sony IMX766 sensor with an upgraded 6-Axis Hybrid Gimbal Stabilizer 2.0. This sensor is paired with a 23.8mm f/1.9 lens. The second camera takes ultrawide photos and has a 13MP sensor with a 120-degree FOV lens. For selfies, the phone has a 32MP RGBW sensor on the front.

The selfie camera gets a new sensor this year, compared to the 12MP sensor on the Zenfone 9. Asus claims a 67% increase in light gathering and 50% reduced noise with the selfie camera. One downgrade, though, is that the selfie camera can only shoot up to 1080p 30fps videos this year. The Zenfone 9 could shoot 4K videos at up to 30fps via the selfie camera. As for the rear camera(s), there is support for up to 8K 24fps video recording.

Asus Zenfone 10 has an “Adaptive EIS” that uses the gyroscope sensor to detect the movement, allowing dynamic FOV to keep the video stable. There is Ozo Audio support for better audio recording to get a 3D surround-sound experience.

Finally, Android 13 runs out of the box.

Asus Zenfone 10 comes in five colors – Starry Blue, Midnight Black, Eclipse Red, Comet White, and Aurora Green.  The price starts at €799 in the European market, the same as last year.
