Motorola Razr 40 launched with Snapdragon 7 Gen 1

Motorola Razr 40 is now official and is one of the two clamshell foldable phones from the brand for 2023. This is the cheaper of the two and will be available in the US as the “Motorola Razr.” The phone is priced at €799 in the European market, which can be considered an “affordable” Motorola Razr.

Design-wise, the phone comes in three colors – Sage Green, Summer Lilac, and Vanilla Cream. The phone has a 7000-series aluminum frame, a vegan leather finish, and Gorilla Glass Victus protection for the external display. There is an IP52 rating which means there is a water-repellent coating. There are stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos support, a side-mounted fingerprint sensor, and a USB Type-C port (USB 2.0). The phone weighs 188.6g, and its thickness is 7.35mm when unfolded and 15.8mm when folded.

Under the hood, Motorola Razr 40 has the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 chipset, 8GB LPDDR4X RAM, and 256GB UFS 2.2 storage. The Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 was launched in May last year and is built on the 4nm process.

The battery size is 4,200mAh, so that’s pretty large for a flip phone. As for the fast charging support, Motorola Razr supports 30W wired charging & 5W wireless charging.

Let’s talk about the displays. Motorola Razr 40 has a 1.5-inch cover display & it is an AMOLED panel with a 194 x 368 pixels resolution. The refresh rate is 60Hz, and the peak brightness is 1000 nits. The cover display can show things like weather information, quick setting toggles, music controls, and notifications, and it can even be used to snap photos and videos.

As for the main display, it is a 6.9-inch pOLED panel with a 2640 x 1080 pixels resolution, LTPO technology, 10-bit color output, HDR10+ support, and up to 144Hz refresh rate. The peak brightness of this panel is 1400 nits.

Motorola has used a teardrop hinge on this phone which the company says has been upgraded to open the display almost creaseless.

In terms of cameras, Motorola Razr 40 has two on the outside. The primary camera has a 64MP sensor with OIS & the secondary camera has a 13MP sensor with 120-degree FOV. There is support for 4K video recording at up to 30fps with both cameras.

The selfie camera inside has a 32MP sensor and can shoot 4K videos at 30fps.

Finally, Android 13 runs out of the box. The phone is priced at €799 in Europe.
