Redmi A2 & Redmi A2+ launched in India

The Redmi A2 features the same design and color options as Redmi A1. The similarities do not end here. The Phone has the same display, a 6.52-inch 720p LCD with 400 nits brightness. The battery size is the same at 5,000mAh, as is the charging support at 10W.  The dual camera setup on the rear is the same – 8MP + 2MP, and so is the 5MP front camera. The phone does not have a fingerprint sensor. There is a micro-USB port on the bottom and a single top-firing speaker.

So, what is new?

The SOC is upgraded from the Helio A22 inside the A1 to the MediaTek Helio G36. This is quite a significant upgrade, considering the Helio A22 has a quad-core CPU, whereas the Helio G36 has an octa-core CPU.

Another upgrade is the software. Redmi A2 runs on Android 13 Go Edition, compared to Android 12 Go Edition inside Redmi A1.

The Redmi A2+ is the same phone but with the addition of a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor.

As for pricing, Redmi A2 starts at ₹6,299 for the 2GB + 32GB variant, and the price goes up to ₹7,999 for the 4GB + 64GB variant. The Redmi A2+ comes in a single configuration – 4GB + 64GB. The price is ₹8,499. The sale starts on the 23rd of May.

Before you go with any of these phones, it is worth mentioning that at the time of publishing this article, Poco C51, basically the Redmi A2+, is selling for ₹7,249. So, that’s a much better deal than going for the A2 or A2+.
