The first Mix Fold launched in April last year and was the first smartphone in the world to feature Liquid Lens technology. The successor comes at a lower price tag of ¥8999 (vs. ¥9999), which translates roughly to around $1330.

This year, the Mix Fold 2 looks completely different from the last year’s Mix Fold. First, the phone is slimmer, so when unfolded, the thickness is just 5.4mm. This makes it one of the slimmest foldable phones. When folded, it is not very thick at 11.2mm. This is opposite to the last year’s Mix Fold which was thicker than the likes of Z Fold 2 and Mate X2. The phone has the company’s custom hinge mechanism that includes carbon fiber dual hinge plates, durable MM alloy, and a compact layered design. The phone weighs around 262g which is also relatively light when discussing foldable smartphones. In comparison, the last year’s Mix Fold was over 300g.

Speaking of the displays, Xiaomi Mix Fold 2 has a 6.56-inch 120Hz E5 AMOLED panel on the outside with Dolby Vision & Gorilla Glass Victus protection. There is a 1000nits High Brightness Mode & dual ambient light sensor. On the inside, there is an 8.02-inch 120Hz LTPO 2.0 panel with Dolby Vision and flexible Ultra Thin Glass. This foldable display is an Eco2 OLED which results in lower power consumption and better display transparency over the normal OLED panel.

On the back, the Mix Fold 2 has three cameras. The primary camera has a 50MP Sony IMX766 sensor with OIS & LEICA optics. The secondary camera has a 13MP sensor and an ultrawide lens. The third camera has an 8MP sensor & a 2X telephoto lens. There is support for 8K and Dolby Vision HDR video recording. For selfies, the outer display has a 20MP sensor. The LEICA branding also means that the camera software includes some built-in LEICA effects. There are two photographic styles included in the camera app – Leica Authentic & Leica Vibrant.

Xiaomi Mix Fold 2 has a 4,500mAh battery and supports 67W fast wired charging. There is no wireless charging support and also no IP rating. Under the hood, the phone has Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset and up to 12GB RAM + 1TB storage.

Finally, MIUI Fold 13 runs out of the box, which is based on Android 12.

Xiaomi Mix Fold 2 comes in two colors, and here is the pricing for China –

• 12GB + 256GB – ¥8999 (~$1336)
• 12GB + 512GB – ¥9999 (~$1485)
• 12GB + 1TB – ¥11999 (~$1780)

In the Chinese market, the phone will go on sale on the 16th of August.
