Lenovo Legion Y90 goes official with Snapdragon 8 Gen 1

Lenovo Legion Y90 is now official in China, and this is the latest gaming phone from the brand. This is the successor to the Legion Duel 2 (Legion 2 Pro) of 2021. Legion Y90 comes with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SOC, 144Hz AMOLED, 68W charging, and a ton of gaming features. As we know already, it is coming to the global market as the Lenovo Legion 3 Pro/Elite.

Design-wise, the Legion Y90 is mostly the same as the Legion Duel 2  except for some minor changes. For example, the camera module is redesigned, but its placement remains the same, i.e., in the middle on the back. There is no 3.5mm headphone jack, even though this is a phone for gamers. Moreover, the phone has two Type-C ports this time, one on the bottom and the other on the side. There is an RGB logo on the back, and you can choose from five different lighting modes.

For cooling, there are dual cooling fans under the hood and a 3520mm square VC cooling plate. The total heat-dissipation area is 66849.26mm square.

Under the hood, there is the latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SOC with LPDDR5 RAM and UFS 3.1 storage.

The 18GB RAM variant has UFS 3.1 storage and an SSD that work in a RAID 0 configuration (SSD + UFS 3.1 only for 18GB RAM variant), something that is probably the first for a smartphone. What this does is that it increases the R/W speeds of the UFS 3.1 storage by up to 50%!

The battery size is 5,600mAh, so that’s larger than last year’s Duel 2 had. But, the charging speed this time is 68W, even though there are two USB Type-C ports this year. Last year, the Legion Duel 2 supported 90W charging via two Type-C ports combined (45W + 45W). But this time, even though you can connect two Type-C cables, only one will be used for charging at 68W. The power on the bottom is USB 2.0, whereas the one on the side is USB 3.1 Gen 2.

Lenovo Legion Y90 has a large 6.92-inch 144Hz E4 AMOLED with HDR10+ support, 720Hz touch-sampling rate, and 1300 nits peak brightness. There are stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos, and Lenovo says that the output power is increased by 40% compared to the previous generation. The phone also has dual X-axis linear motors. In terms of cameras, there are dual cameras on the rear, where the primary shooter has a 64MP sensor. There is a 16MP selfie camera.

There is support for Bypass charging, and the phone has Game Mode too. Finally, ZUI 13 runs out of the box.

In China, Lenovo Legion Y90 comes in only one color option. Here is the pricing –

  • 12GB + 256GB – ¥3999 (~$633)
  • 16GB + 256GB – ¥4299 (~$681)
  • 18GB + 640GB (512GB UFS 3.1 + 128GB SSD) – ¥4999 (~$792)

The phone will go on sale on the 9th of March in China.
