In the official blog post, OnePlus’ CEO Pete Lau said –

As many of you know, last year I took on some additional responsibilities to oversee product strategy for both OnePlus and Oppo. Since then, we have integrated a number of our teams together with OPPO to better streamline our operations and capitalize on additional shared resources. After seeing positive impact from those changes, we’ve decided to further integrate our organization with OPPO.

This further integration means that OnePlus can now utilize even more resources of Oppo. The company even says that it now can deliver software updates faster than ever. So what about the “independent brand” thing? Well, Pete said that the company would continue to operate “independently.”

Keeping all the official words aside, this is something that was going to happen. In fact, OnePlus was dependent on Oppo for the distribution of its devices and was already using its resources. So this new announcement is just an official confirmation about the same. In fact, as we have seen, some OnePlus flagships had similar features as Oppo’s flagships with some design changes here and there. We just hope that the thing which makes OnePlus devices unique remains there in future devices, i.e., OxygenOS. Because already, in the Chinese market, the OnePlus 9 series comes with ColorOS running out of the box instead of the company’s HydrogenOS, which the brand used to offer in its phones for China.

Well, looking at the brand’s recent launches under the “Nord” series (like the N200, which is exclusive to North America), it seems like OnePlus won’t go through the full “Oppo-fication” soon. But still, time will tell if OnePlus stays independent or not.
