UPDATE – Motorola will launch the Moto G100 on the 25th of March

Almost a month ago, we got the first smartphone powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 870 SOC, named the Motorola Edge S. It launched in China at a starting price of 1,999 Yuan which translates to a little over $300. Well, Motorola is now all set to launch this device in the global market but with a different name. The press renders of the Moto G100 were shared by TechnikNews which confirms that it is a global version of the Motorola Edge S.

So the design, as well as the specs, are the same as the Chinese version. There are dual selfie cameras placed on the top left corner of the display and each Camera gets its individual hole-punch cutout. The display is flat and there is a noticeable chin on the bottom. On the rear, Moto G100 has a square-shaped camera module inside which are three cameras. The fingerprint scanner sits on the right side and doubles as the power button. The phone has a USB Type-C port on the bottom and does have a headphone jack as well.

Specifications-wise, the Moto G100 features a 6.7-inch LCD with a 90Hz refresh rate and Full-HD+ resolution and that’s the reason why it doesn’t have an in-display fingerprint reader. So this is one area where Motorola has done some cost-cutting by offering an LCD instead of AMOLED. Under the hood, there is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 870 SOC which is a slightly upgraded version of the Snapdragon 865+ of last year.

In China, the Motorola Edge S launched with 6GB or 8GB LPDDR5 RAM and 128GB or 256GB UFS 3.1 storage but we are not sure what storage options the global version has. Anyways, there is a Quad camera setup on the rear that includes a primary 64 Megapixel sensor that can shoot 4K 60fps videos. This sensor is paired with a 16 Megapixel ultrawide and a 2 Megapixel depth sensor. On the front, the main 16 Megapixel selfie camera is paired with an 8 Megapixel ultrawide camera.

Finally, there is a 5,000mAh battery and the phone supports 20W fast charging.

Well, the pricing in the global market is still a mystery but the least we are expecting is a starting price of around 350-400 EUR.
