The Ascend P7 boasts of a larger and better display, premuim design, more optimized cameras, and a more powerful processor. On comparing some of its specs, they're quite impressive and set the device on par with other smartphones like the Samsung Galaxy S5 and HTC One M8. This smartphone is among a list of several attractive Android devices that has been released over the years by the Chinese tech giant. From the Huawei Ascend P7 specs and features given below, one can decide if this device has enough improvements to make it a worthy upgrade.
Huawei Ascend P7 Features
Display and Build
The Huawei P7 features a 5-inch IPS LCD screen with a resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels, pixel density of 441PPI and 16:9 aspect ratio. Compared to its predecessor, this display screen is larger and better, giving users an enjoyable gaming, reading and movie watching experience. Its color reproduction is good since colours are natural looking and its high pixel density ensures that the screen is very sharp.
Its body is made of metal and glass, where the metal is at its square sides and the toughened glass is at its front and back. While the metal will serve to give this device a premuim look, the Gorilla glass 3 as used on its body will reduce the effect of damages that can be caused when the device comes in contact with rough and hard surfaces. Both build materials combine to give the Ascend P7 enhanced strength and durability.
The smartphone has a dimension of 139.80 x 68.80 x 6.50mm (height x width x thickness) and weight of 124g. Although it is 0.3mm thicker than the Huawei P6 and 4g heavier, It still maintains the slim build its predecessor, and can be said to be thinner than the said ultra slim Iphone 5S at 7.6mm. Its slim build makes its weight negligible since the phone still feels sturdy in-hand and easier to handle, thanks to the metal band around its edges. The Ascend P7 is available in different colour options which include black, white, and pink.
Hardware and Software
The Huawei P7 is powered by a quad-core Huawei Kirin 910T processor with processing speed of 1.8GHz and Mali 450 GPU. It has 2GB of RAM and an internal memory storage of 16GB, a storage that can only be expanded via microSD card upto 64GB by use of a dedicated slot in the single SIM model. This memory expansion option is not available for the dual SIM model of the Huawei Ascend P7, hence users will have to make do of the device's inbuilt storage.
It is said that from the benchmark test of the Ascend P7, the performance of its RAM and processor wouldn't quite compete with that of flagship devices from its rivals. Although the RAM is large enough to support multitasking, the moderate capacity of its inbuilt storage and without support for memory expansion in its dual SIM model, might not go down well with most users. Only vital files, games and apps will have to be saved and installed on the device, in order to make use of the moderate space in the best possible ways.

The Ascend P7 is also powered by Huawei's customised user interface Emotion UI 2.3 on top Android 4.4.2 KitKat. This user interface provides an easy to use and navigate interface for users and one that is customizable. One can easily personalize the smartphone management software, including a permission manager, network and notification management, and power saving modes.
Camera
Compared to the P6, the Huawei Ascend P7 features several improvements in its camera. It has Sony’s 4th generation BSI 13MP sensor at its rear with LED flash and f/2.0 aperture. It also sports an 8MP front camera with panorama selfie feature that adds different backgrounds in one picture. The resolution of both cameras is good, and with features like auto-facial enhancement beautification mode and voice activated shooting for adding a 1 second audio clip to images, pictures with great quality can be captured even at night or indoors.
By double clicking the lower volume button while the device is locked, the camera can be accessed within 1.2 seconds, thanks to its ultra snapshot feature. Also, its Image Signal processor (ISP) gives this device control over functions such as autofocus, white balance, and noise reduction. Users of this device can also take a selfie video with the 1080p HD video playback..
Battery and Connectivity
The Huawei P7's battery capacity is 2500mAh. At its moderate capacity, this Lithium Polymer battery can support a full day's use before there is need to recharge especially while on 3G network connection, . Users can get upto 422 hours of standby time on 3G, 22 hours of talk time on 2G and 14 hours on 3G network.
Taking advantage of a smart network switching technology (stabilizes the network when weak signals are encountered by switching automatically between networks) and an ultra power saving mode (switches off most functions of the phone except the ability to call and text when the battery is less than 10%), will help to reduce the rate at which the battery will run down.
The Huawei Ascend P7 supports only one SIM smartphone for its single SIM model, and two SIMs for its dual SIM model. Its connectivity options include Wi-Fi, GPS, Bluetooth, NFC, 3G and 4G LTE. With 4G capability and a dual antenna to improve signal reception, one can be sure of fast connection and download speeds with the Huawei P7. The Ascend P7's sensors include proximity, accelerometer, and ambient light sensors.

Tech Lass's Verdict:
For starters, the battery capacity of the Huawei P7 is not quite impressive and could be a downside to this device especially when one compares it with that of its competitors which offer more capacity. The capacity must have probably been reduced to enable the device maintain the slim build of its predecessor. But then, the device might be better optimized to manage battery power more efficiently, even than some of its competitors with higher battery capacity. Although on paper, what most people consider first is the actual value they're seeing and not thought of the power efficiency management of its processor and operating system.
