3 Cool Ways Cops Are Using the Latest Technology

Technology is changing the way Police authorities protect and serve our communities. There are all kinds of monitoring and training tools that cops are now using thanks to the latest innovations of technology in camera equipment, robotics, augmented reality (AR) technology, drones and others. Below are three intriguing ways that cops are using the latest technology to train police and protect civilians.

Tons of Cameras

There are many cameras used in the police force for Law Enforcement as well as training purposes. The body-worn camera, or BWC, records video footage directly from cameras attached to the police officer’s uniform. It is used for reviewing scenarios after arrests or altercations as well as a learning tool afterward, particularly for training officers. A BWC is more of a hands-on tool since it is attached directly to the officer whereas a robot camera is used to protect officers from entering hazardous conditions and scoping out the location in case there is an aggressor or a bomb threat. Thermal cameras are also different from BWCs and robot cameras in that they are used in case bodies must be located in extreme temperatures.

Simulation Tech Is Huge

Simulation is used in police and military training. Not only do we have law enforcement driving simulators to help train police, other simulator technology is big too. With the advances that the gaming industry has made over the years, simulation technology is now a huge part of law enforcement in order to train cops. Simulation allows trainees to encounter hypothetical situations so that they can learn how to adapt and react to the scenarios in which they find themselves. For instance, driving simulators help train police so they can prepare for chases, if necessary, and navigate traffic during an emergency.

Drone Training

Drones are used by the police force for law enforcement in large crowds, searching for convicts, observing traffic, documenting crimes, or monitoring natural disasters, such as fires, tornadoes, or hurricanes. Drones are also effective when the police need to protect themselves and civilians in the presence of an active shooter, and they need to monitor from afar. Drones are also used for search and rescue operations in dangerous locations. Training the police with drone technology equips them with surveillance tools from afar.

The police force stays apprised of the latest technological advances, such as cameras, simulation with augmented reality tools, and drones in order to protect and serve their local communities better.
