Everyone loves a good story. Since human beings first sat warming themselves around campfires, they’ve been telling stories. A great D&D game centers around a great story. Your Dungeon Master (DM) sets the stage for your epic campaign, but every player contributes to the story. Storytelling is so useful that lawyers even describe it as an indispensable skill for their careers. However, lawyers aren’t the only people who can benefit from learning to tell a good story. Teachers, parents, clergyman and many others need to learn to be effective storytellers. The ability to speak in front of a group will benefit anyone with a career that involves cooperation with other people. Many DMs will include D&D experience on their job resumes because it showcases a high level of organizational skill and people management skills typically associated with manager-level positions.

Patience

A great D&D game comes equipped with many twists and turns. Your DM and your fellow party members are going to throw some curveballs your way, and those events aren’t always going to turn out in your favor. You can’t flip the table over every time something doesn’t go your way. You learn to be patient and take your licks; you could be on top again with the next roll of the dice. There is not a single person in any area of work or life who couldn’t use more patience.

These are only three of the many life skills you can learn through D&D, and now that it’s actually considered cool, you can find people almost anywhere ready to play. It’s also a great game to play with your kids because it teaches them some life skills early and equips them for the real world.
