3 Movie-Themed Vacation Destinations

Taking a vacation is always a blast, especially if it is to a place you have never been. Part of the fun in planning is picking a place that is unique and appeals to your personal inclinations and tastes. Escape the ordinary world by visiting a movie-themed attraction and feel part of your favorite movie universe.

Lord of the Rings

Every fan of The Lord of the Rings (LOTR) films knows that many parts were shot in New Zealand. Begin your Tolkien adventure by taking a Hobbiton Movie Set Tour of the village of Hobbiton from the LOTR and Hobbit movies. U.S. News reports that there are 44 Hobbit holes that you will visit in this replica of the Shire. Your guide will take you down the winding paths around the Hobbit holes to the Mill and finally to the Green Dragon Inn for a refreshing Middle-Earth beverage. Besides the Hobbiton Movie Set Tour, there are other LOTR and Hobbit-themed tours you can take, such as the Mangaotaki Valley tour (troll campfire) or a helicopter ride over Mt. Olympus (Rivendell) and Mt. Owen (Dimrill Dale).

Disney

Star Wars fans have been waiting breathlessly for the new Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge theme areas. Park Savers says that Disney is currently in the process of developing a new Star Wars addition to their Hollywood Studios parks at both Disneyland (May 2019) and Disney World (August 2019). Galaxy’s Edge will be over 14 acres and the largest single-themed expansion ever at Disney. Visitors will explore the Black Spire Outpost on Planet Batuu, home of the resistance. There will be themed rides, shops and much more to enjoy!

Harry Potter World

Most Harry Potter fans know about The Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal in Orlando and California. But lesser known is the fact that there are many Harry Potter tours and places of interest to see in London, UK. According to Visit London, The Warner Bros. Studio Tour London showcases costumes, sets, and props used in the films, and tour members can step inside locations like Dumbledore’s office, Hagrid’s Hut, the Great Hall and more. Other sites of interest include Kings Cross platforms 4 and 5, the Reptile House at the London Zoo and several bridges filmed in the movies. While in London, don’t miss Leadenhall Market, which was used for filming Diagon Alley.

Time spent exploring new sites and areas is worth taking just for getting away, but when you mix it up with favorite movie themes, it becomes a magical experience. Make your vacation truly memorable by visiting one of these movie-themed resorts, and you will not be disappointed.
