4 Weirdest Vending Machines From Around the World

The world’s very first Vending Machine was developed by Hero of Alexandria, also called Heron Alexandrinus, to dispense holy water from temples. Putting a coin in the machine triggered a lever to move so that the machine dispersed the water. The tradition of getting unusual things from a vending machine continues today. Here are four unique Vending Machines from around the world.

Raw Milk Vending Machine

Throughout much of Europe, raw milk vending machines are all the rage, and their popularity is spreading rapidly. Like water machines, raw milk machines dispense the product into containers brought by the consumer while others are willing to sell the bottles to consumers. The vending machines are proving particularly popular near schools and playgrounds, but do not look for this trend to come to the United States anytime soon, as the sale of raw milk is banned in many states.

Gold to Go

The first Gold to Go machine was developed by Thomas Geissler and installed at the Frankfurt Airport. When patrons put in cash or slide their credit card, the machine dispenses gold in the form of jewelry, bars, or coins. The machines are armor protected and often guarded by security officers. Gold prices are updated every 10 minutes using an internet connection.

Crab Vending Machines

Many riders of the subway in Nanjing, China, apparently crave crab at night when most crab stores are closed. Some Chinese vending machines will have live crabs from August to October, which is prime crab season. The vending machines that hold the crabs dormant by keeping them at extremely cold temperatures have proved so popular that they have expanded beyond the subway system. While many crab stores bind the crab’s legs, potentially hurting their flavor, the machines use a unique packaging system, so they taste better.

Champagne Vending Machine

Moët & Chandon has produced a vending machine that will dispense little bottles of champagne after the users insert the right amount of money, giving people a new way to celebrate. While these vending machines can be found in some upscale hotels and in bars, this type of vending machine was given to Kris Jenner by Chrissy Teigen. Chrissy also gave Kris a lifetime supply of the bubbly.

There are many types of uncommon vending machines around the globe. Make sure to watch for them the next time that you are traveling as you may encounter some interesting ones when you least expect it.
