The Astro A40 is one of the best gaming headsets in the market for this year, it may have a steep price but it is all justifiable due to its performance, reliability, versatility, customizability, and features. It provides amazing sound, with tons of comfort and enhanced comfort, in addition to that you get a great microphone that makes it a perfect setup for streamers.

Design-wise the Astro A40 features a pretty aggressive gamer look, with striking angles and curves and a two-tone paint job, I’m not fond of gamer looks, but this one is very attractive. The build quality of the Astro A40 is very solid and sturdy, every component feels excellent and nothing is an afterthought.

Interestingly, these headphones can be customizable with the mod kits that are available on Amazon, you can interchange between headband padding and earcup covers, to better suit your style and you can also improve your microphone to a noise-canceling one, and I would highly recommend this if you are a streamer.

The Astro A40 is exceptionally comfortable and I wore them for a long time without feeling any sort of discomfort around my head, thanks to its plush padded and soft to touch earcups and headband. It is not the lightest of the headsets, but neither the heaviest weighing just about 300grams in total, but it provides a tight fit that feels very comfortable in a matter of minutes.

The Astro A40 provides an excellent sound quality that is up to par with the best headphones in the market, delivering a very versatile experience that is capable of everything and not just gaming.

The soundscape is pretty versatile and it can handle every genre adequately, with punchy beats, tight trebles and balanced mids that were exceptionally clear. In gaming it was one of the best I’ve tried in a while, giving great directional sounds with plenty of depth and clear vocals.

An excellent pair of headphone for streamers which could get even more capable if you can afford the MixAmp Pro, but one of the most capable in the market.

4. SteelSeries Arctis 7

Best Wireless Headset

The SteelSeries Arctis series is one of my personal favorites because they are very carefully designed to provide the best experience, the Arctis 7 is truly an amazing gaming headset and its the best wireless one for both PCs and consoles, however, you can comfortably use them in your daily commute thanks to its streamlined design that looks amazing.

Despite being a pricy headset overall, the SteelSeries Arctis 7 sports the highest quality build and materials. The headband of this headset is self-adjusting to fit your head perfectly, and you can swap out the design of it if you don’t like its looks, and one thing that impressed me, was that the headband didn’t conduct any kind of noise to the earcups when touched or while moving your head.

The frame of the SteelSeries Arctis 7 is made of aluminum for rigidity and sturdiness, the earcups have a soft matte finish to them and the entire headset feels perfect in hand and on the head. The padded cushy earcups are covered with a soft silky cloth that was breathable and very nice to wear.

Overall I can say that the comfort levels were sky high, and you could easily wear them for long gaming sessions, and due to its looks and portability, you can take them on your commute.

The wireless connection is made possible by a USB transmitter that provides seamless connection and quality even if you switch rooms. Unfortunately, the mic can’t be detached, but this is a gaming headset so it is expected, I was pleased with the control layout on both earcups as they were intuitive and easy to find.

The sound quality of the SteelSeries Arctis 7 is pretty impressive in both music and gaming, with great rhythmic that is precise and enhanced vocals. The mid-range was very well balanced I can describe the soundscape as natural and balanced, and due to that it can handle every genre adequately and gaming performance was way better than the average.

With a great build quality, clear and powerful sound quality, long battery life, and amazing range, the SteelSeries Arctis 7 is not going to let you down.

3. CORSAIR HS70

Best Multi-Purpose Headset

Corsair has dominated the gaming peripheral market for a few years now and it doesn’t look like it’s going to stop with their excellent products that have amassed a huge number of die-hard fans. The CORSAIR HS70 is the best device in their gaming headset lineup with a good design, a versatile audio performance, enhanced comfort, amazing microphone and one of the best all-around headsets in not just the gaming scene.

First off I want to start this review by stating that the CORSAIR HS70 is driven by an internal DAC that makes it extremely user-friendly and great for gaming, however, this adds to its weight a little.

Design-wise it looks a little simple and basic, without any RGBs or sharp angles that we see on most gaming peripherals, but in my opinion, it is better this way as you can use them for your commute or in the office as well, resulting in a multi-purpose headset. The earcups have a matte plastic build that is soft to touch and a wired mesh that is only decorative.

For comfort, they are equipped with memory foam and covered with leatherette to give you a great seal and no strains. On top, you will find a strong metal frame that was incredibly lightweight and flexible and the headband was padded for further comfort.

You can charge the device via the included micro USB cable and it has 16 hours of life per single charge, and the wireless connection was seamless with plenty of range. The controls of the headset were pretty intuitive and easy to locate on the fly and I want to mention the flexible and discrete microphone which had a powerful performance.

The CORSAIR HS70 achieves a very balanced and powerful soundscape, that is appropriate for music and movies and its intended gaming purpose as well. The directional sound was excellent, gaming scores sounded amazing, and dialogues were clear and sharp, no weak spots whatsoever.

With a pretty wide soundstage in stereo mode and impressive Corsair iCUE software, the H70 is one of the most capable gaming headsets in the market.

2. Razer Kraken 7.1 V2

As expected from Razer, one of the leading gaming brands on the market, its new and improved Kraken 7.1 V2 headsets are excellent. They come in an interesting design that looks unassuming at first but gets flashy, they are pretty comfortable, offer great gaming sound, decent music performance, and great microphone, but the new Kraken does all this in a more affordable price and delivers tremendous value for it.

As I mentioned earlier, as a first impression this headset looks unassuming and utilitarian with its big all-black design and extremely thick earcups. However, once you turn it on the LED Razer symbols light up on both sides, and they are fully RGB customizable, you will also locate the retractable and flexible microphone on the left side, and the device connects to your PC or console via a USB cord.

If you are looking for a streamlined and attractive design, these are not for you, they are gaming headsets, large, comfortable and ready to perform. Due to its size, the Razer Kraken 7.1 V2 can accommodate large earcups with maximal padding, it sat perfectly on y head and achieved a good seal without any pressure, and despite their enormous size, they felt pretty light. The headband was padded and thick as well, and I didn’t notice any discomfort through testing which lasted for a few hours.

The Razer Kraken 7.1 V2 shines with its 7.1 surround system which delivers a very immense experience, that results in perfect gaming performance altogether. It can be also disabled, but I wouldn’t choose to do it, maybe it is overkill in some games, and through the Razer Synapse software, you can preset which games or apps will run the 7.1 and which not.

In the Synapse software, you will find tons of presets for music listening as well, which worked decently, not the best music experience, but for a gaming headset, it was acceptable.

Thanks to its solid build quality, elevated comfort and surround system which was perfect for gaming, the Kraken 7.1 V2 for its price delivers the most bang for your buck.

1. HyperX Cloud Flight

Best Overall

The HyperX has been the leading brand when it comes to wired gaming headsets for a long time now, but they haven’t treaded wireless waters, until the Cloud Flight which takes the cake for the best gaming headset for 2019. It sports a very comfortable design, superb build quality, great audio performance, sharp microphone, and one of the best wireless performances with about 30 hours of battery life.

In comparison to other HyperX headsets, the Cloud Flight is a little more conservative in terms of design, it sports a very traditional design that is rather simple and unassuming, large and made for comfort. In terms of flash, it just has the LED HyperX logo on the earcups which I am not a big fan of, but because this headset delivers everything else excellently, the design can be forgiven.

The control layout is pretty easy to use and find even while gaming, similarly to the other aforementioned gaming headsets. The microphone of the device is detachable, but it is not retractable or flexible so it limits your options. Build quality of the headset despite being made of plastic is excellent and it weighs just 300 grams which when combined with the foam padding provides tremendous comfort, which you can wear for long periods without feeling any discomfort.

One of the biggest features of the HyperX Cloud Flight is its wireless connection which is extremely strong and 30 hours of battery life. The headset provides 2.0 stereo sound which is pretty good for gaming and the pair of 50mm drivers the sound is very powerful and a little bass-heavy, but in gaming situations, it gives a little edge.

However, it is not overpowering and the overall experience was balanced and natural as a true gaming headset. The microphone provided a very smooth and clear sound while gaming, and it didn’t pick up any background noise, making it great even for streamers.

Overall, despite having fierce competition the HyperX Cloud Flight prevails as the best gaming headset on the market for 2019, with its amazing set of features, performance, and comfort.
