We are going to start our best smartphones list with a phone from Google. For the budget-conscious buyer that always aims to get the best value from all his/her buys, the Google Pixel series has always delivered. The Google Pixel 3a is a flagship-grade phone, but it is half the price of its competitors, so you can easily get yourself a top grade phone without breaking the bank. It features a great OLED display, an amazing Camera, durable and solid built, lengthy battery life, and Google’s best software and support, it doesn’t get any better at that price.

The Google Pixel 3a doesn’t look or feel cheap, however, it lacks the premium flagship phone design due to its polycarbonate construction, but I wouldn’t complain. The phone is extremely light weighing just 5.2-ounces and measures 6×2.8×0.3-inches in total, it is nimble and compact, making it ultra-easy to carry.

It is also available in different paint jobs coming in with the plain Black, Purple, and Clearly White versions, all looking attractive but the Purple version is more “fun”. The device feels very sturdy in hands thanks to its glossy and matte surface in the back and it is one of the more solid and durable smartphones in the market so far.

The Google Pixel 3a rocks a 5.6-inch OLED display that delivers vivid colors, great viewing angles, and inky deep blacks without paying a hefty price. The resolution is also excellent at 2220×1080 pixels, it provides plenty of detail and overall a great viewing experience that I do not expect at this price point.

It achieves plenty of brightness at 401 nits and the manages to reproduce 182% of the sRGB color gamut. The 12.2-megapixel camera with an f/1.8 aperture looks a little incapable at first but delivers plenty of performance and it can do all the tricks big boys can do.

Performance-wise the Google Pixel 3a is equipped with a Snapdragon 670 CPU and 4GB of RAM, this provides this phone plenty of snappiness and quickness that is not far behind its premium competition.

In combination with the CPU comes in the small battery that together provides a great performance of about 12 hours in web browsing.

Overall, I have virtually no complaints about this phone, and it is a bargain.

4. Sony Xperia 1

The Sony Xperia 1 is the company’s new flagship phone destined and capable of truly big things. It is designed and manufactured to provide an excellent cinematic experience, and it does a great job as most of us stream our movies form our phones, the X1 makes that easier and better. It has plenty of performance to compete with its competitors, one of the cleanest Android interfaces as expected from Sony, cinematic video, excellent 4K display and different screen ratio that is very useful.

The Sony Xperia 1 has adopted an interesting approach here with a 21:9 aspect ratio resulting in a super tall screen that resembles a remote control. Reaching the top of the screen is a little difficult, but it is also pretty thin making it easier to wrap it in your hands. It is one of the most comfortable phones to hold with its rounded sides and corners, unlike other Sony smartphones with sharp angular designs.

On the front and the back you will have the protective Corning Gorilla Glass 6 for protection, that is a fingerprint and dust magnet in its own right, and on the back, you will spot the triple camera array that sits on the middle of the top, a truly beautiful design form Sony.

The Sony Xperia 1 is equipped with the world’s first 6.5-inch 4K HDR 21:9 OLED display with 3850×1644 resolution, which is perfect. The image is pretty sharp and it even supports HDR content, making the viewing experience more colourful, accurate and with exceptional contrast with supported content. I enjoyed streaming my favourite TV shows from Netflix on this display as it provides the best cinematic experience and it was extremely pleasing.

In the performance department, the Sony Xperia 1 is equipped with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 CPU with 6GB of RAM that provides excellent speed and power, resulting in amazing multitasking and it can power through everything you throw at it. It was also capable of gaming smoothly even with the most performance demanding titles.

If you are a movie fan and want the best cinematic experience from your phone, Sony Xperia 1 is the answer.

The Huawei P30 Pro is the new flagship smartphone from the Chinese giant, and it has set new standards with its excellent camera array. It is not just that though, as this amazing phone delivers everything that you may want form a modern smartphone, with beautiful design, wireless charging, high-performance specs, a great screen, and good battery life, Huawei has raised the bar with this phone.

When you compare it to its predecessor the Huawei P30 Pro is more streamlined and refined and is a true upgrade from the design perspective to start with. It has minimal bezels resulting in a nearly edge-to-edge display, as it has incorporated the fingerprint scanner in the screen and the camera in a notch on top of the screen that is not annoying and very functional.

The screen has a Gorilla Glass for protection and it is now a little curved with slim profile resulting in a better grip, however, it is a large and substantial device measuring 158×73.4×8.4mm and weighing 192grams in total. One of the most beautiful and better-built smartphones in the market, top quality from Huawei.

It is equipped with a 6.47-inch OLED display with 2340×1080 resolution, 398 pixels per inch, and 19.5:9 aspect ratio. It can get very bright, and the image is excellently sharp and colourful, delivering a pleasant experience overall.

The main selling point of the P30 Pro is its cameras, equipped with a 40MP main sensor, 8MP telephoto camera, 20MP ultra-wide lens, and a Time of flight depth sensing sensor to complete the package. This delivers the best shooting experience you can get from a smartphone and nothing can rightfully compete with it, it is truly in a league of its own.

In the performance department, it is equipped with a Kirin 980 CPU and 8GB of RAM, resulting in a snappy and quick experience that is capable of ploughing through everything in its way.

With a capable 4200mAh battery that results in about 16 hours of continuous video streaming, this is one of the most capable smartphones in the market.

2. OnePlus 7 Pro

The OnePlus 7 Pro is one of the most capable smartphones in the market, and it is dubbed by most as the flagship killer by providing excellent features, performances, and display at a bargain price. It has made the jobs of the competitors a lot harder and it is truly a phone to consider with its amazing battery life, Oxygen OS, decent cameras, one of the best displays with the highest refresh rates and dual-sim capabilities, for the money there is literally nothing that can realistically compete with the OnePlus 7 Pro.

From the design perspective, the OnePlus 7 Pro is everything you may want from a phone, combining practicality and aesthetics in a fail-safe package. It is front panel resembles that of the Samsung’s S10+, with the ultra-thin bezels, curved edges, glass build and streamlined edges, except the front camera notch which has disappeared form this design and it has opted for a mechanical pop-up camera.

You shouldn’t worry about the camera mechanism because it is tested to withstand more selfies than you can ever take in your life. Overall the OnePlus 7 Pro looks very attractive and sports a very durable construction that is built to last.

The OnePlus 7 Pro features a 6.67-inch Fluid AMOLED display that is capable of perfectly deep blacks and vivid colors, on top of that it boasts one of the best refresh rates on a phone screen with 90Hz. It has full HDR support and has a Full HD+ resolution, resulting in a pretty sharp image with plenty of details. When you combine it with HDR content, this screen surpasses everyone’s expectations, and nothing is quite close to it except the Xperia 1.

The OnePlus 7 Pro under the hood packs the latest 7nm Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 processor with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage. This setup is capable of getting you through everything and sits on top of the list in that aspect, and combined with the excellent refresh rate gaming on this phone is a joy, the most pleasant smartphone gaming experience.

With virtually no weak points, the OnePlus 7 Pro is a close contender for the top spot.

For the perfectionists and those who always want and can afford the best, newest ant the biggest in the market, Samsung always delivers. This time with the Galaxy S10 Plus which is the best, with an amazing display, gorgeous design, and beastly performance. It ticks all the boxes when it comes to features and provides the best overall package that is perfect for every user, however, it has a hefty price.

The Samsung Galaxy S10+ has a very attractive design, built with an all-glass built on the front and back and an aluminium ring that encompasses its sides. It is the best effort at delivering an edge-to-edge display that looks futuristic compared to other phones, apart from that it is very big with its 6.4-inch screen, but it has a curved back to provide better grip and security. On the back of the device, you will spot the camera array with its three sensors and the flash and the heart rate monitor, but no fingerprint scanner on the back, this time around it is incorporated in the screen.

The 6.4-inch Super AMOLED display delivers inky blacks, rich colours that pop and HDR support, and is simply mind-blowing. It can achieve about 1200nits of max brightness that is handy when you are out in sunny days, providing practicality even under direct sunlight.

The only caveat of this phone might be its curved edges which can cause some typing inaccuracies and the front camera incorporated in the Infinity-O display that gets annoying sometimes.

Performance-wise the power is top of the class, capable of handling anything that you can throw at a smartphone like a breeze. It is the perfect smartphone for multitaskers with its Snapdragon 855 CPU and 8GB of RAM, these specs will not degrade one bit with time.

The camera array is pretty powerful with its three sensors delivering an amazing photo shooting experience, and the dual front cameras will ensure that you get the perfect selfies.

The 4100 mAh battery lasted about 12 and half hours during my testing and it is the best in the market. An amazing smartphone, the definite best if you can afford its premium price. I would say that it fully deserves its spot in this best smartphones list.
