It would be a shame to write a best home printers list without including a product from Canon. The Canon Pixma Pro-100 is a great professional inkjet printer that is on entry-level pricing for photo printing, making it a good option for home use. It is designed with photo printing in mind and it can easily print documents as well, but if you are a photography enthusiast the Canon PIXMA Pro-100 will be perfect for your home studio.

The Canon PIXMA Pro-100 comes at a huge size with a large footprint, and it has a weight of 43.2-pounds, so consider this before buying so you are not surprised if you have no space on your desk. Canon has built this printer with the best materials, as it is apparent on its build quality and you won’t have to worry about its durability and sturdiness. It has a square design except for its rounded corners when not in use the paper tray folds up nicely to offer a sharper and cleaner look. There are only three buttons located on the printer, the power button, a paper feed button, and the dedicated button for WPS wireless connection, but you cannot monitor the ink levels, unfortunately. Everything about the design of this printer is of premium quality.

Despite being a professional photo printer, it has a hassle-free setup, and it provides everything about the installation in the package, there is an instruction manual as to how to set it up and how to use that is very comprehensible.

The print quality on the Canon PIXMA Pro-100 is great overall, it is mainly designed for photo printing, but if the need arises for you to print out documents the text and the graphics will look very good, from texts to various charts and graphics. But when it comes to its main purpose the Canon PIXMA Pro-100 was amazing, after some calibration and using the appropriate software and the Conon Pro Luster photo paper, I tested the printer at it printed borderless 8.5×11-inch prints with fantastic quality.

If you are a photographer I don’t need to tell you but printing photos requires some calibration in the software, to bring out the results as they are on the screen.

The Canon PIXMA Pro-100 is the absolute best printer for home use when it comes to photo printing.

The Brother HL-L2340DW is a small and compact printer coming in with a low price, manufactured and designed by the tried and tested Brother quality. It is designed to be used as a personal printer, but it can even be used on very small offices that need it casually. It has decent print speed and paper handling, and it supports mobile printing with WiFi Direct, a welcome feature.

The Brother HL-L2340DW comes in at a compact size of 7.2x14x14.2-inches leaving a small footprint and has a weight of only 15-pounds so you can easily move it from room to room. Surprisingly, the Brother HL-L2340DW offers mobile printing support, for example when you connect it to a network, the printer will allow you to print through the cloud and from iOS and Android mobile devices.

The paper handling on the Brother HL-L2340DW is the absolute best in class, it has a 250-sheet tray, a one-sheet manual feed, and a built-in duplexer that is used for printing on both sides of the paper. If you use it for personal use this will be more than enough, and if you buy it for a small office than it will be just adequate.

The setup of the printer is a breeze and you can start operating at an instant just connect the USB- install the driver and it is done. The manufacturers have stated that the printer engine can output about 27 pages per minute, and the device prints about 10 pages per minute for documents containing texts and graphics with charts, that is decently fast for its engine speed and its price, and even surprising due to its small size.

Text print quality is very good for business settings, providing good enough sharpness as long as you need standard font sizes if you go little down in font size the results will not be as good. The graphics quality is close to what the competition delivers but it is not as good if your work relies heavily on printing graphics this may not be the best printer for you.

The best monochrome compact budget printer in the market.

3. Brother HL-2270DW

The Most Durable Home Printer

The Brother HL-2270DW is another small compact printer for home use in our list. It is a mono laser printer with an amazing speed of 26 pages per minute, wireless connection and duplex print capabilities. It has a separate drum and toner cartridges and has a great paper feed, also it comes with 1200 page starter toner.

The printer has an all-black body that looks sleek and clean thanks to its low profile, combining for an attractive device as much as a printer can be. Paper is fed to the printer from the undertray with 250-sheet capacity automatically, or manually from the single-sheet feed on top of the printer when the printing process is done the paper ends up at the dedicated surface on top of the machine.

There is a small control panel on the device, with a column of four LED lights that consist of Toner, Drum, Error, and Ready, right below them is located the Go button. The front panel of the device lodges the two-part drum and toner cartridge, the toner attaches into the drum component, and the toner cartridges can be cycled through before replacing the drum after 12000 pages.

The Brother HL-2270DW is rated at 26ppm in top speed and that is correct for page-to-page output, but in general job time, it was in the 12.5ppm average through a 5-page paper and 20ppm in draft mode for a 20-page document. When printing graphics and photos, it achieved good speeds too, it took 17 seconds to print a full picture in A4 paper which was pretty impressive for this compact printer.

For text the print quality was very good generally, thanks to its 600dpi engine, the results were clean-edged with near-to-none toner spatter, even with smaller font sizes and cramped texts. The results were equally well when I test printed some graphics, they achieved good grey levels overall, and in photos the results were not as good but that is not its intended task.

If you are looking for a compact printer for home use that has low costs thanks to its high yield cartridges and has great durability the Brother HL-2270DW is right for you.

2. Epson Expression ET-2750

Lowest Running Costs

The Epson Expression ET-2750 is a great printer that is mainly designed for home use and it is truly a great all in one printer. It has a higher asking price in the beginning, but thanks to its large volume of ink tank that can be refilled by pouring bottled ink right into it, you will save a ton in the long run. Combined with its decent feature set, design, print speed, and the ability to print everything the Epson Expression ET-2750 is a great printer.

Other than faxing, the Epson Expression ET-2750 can do pretty much everything, it can print, copy, and scan. It has a lightweight of 13.2-pounds so you can easily move it from a room to another without any strain on your back or hands.

There is also a 1.8-inch non-touch display placed on the front panel with four-arrows for control and related function buttons for convenience. However, the paper capacity is limited on the Epson Expression ET-2750, the rear feeder can carry 100 sheets of paper or just 20 sheets of photo paper. The scanner is a flatbed, unfortunately, it doesn’t have an automatic document feeder, which is an extremely convenient feature. It can also print directly from SD cards without using a computer, but it lacks a port for a USB stick drive that could have been very useful for direct printing.

Adding ink to the empty tanks is done in a very fast and hassle-free manner, you just pour the ink in and close the lid. Each of the ink bottles has enough ink to fill a tank full, and a full black ink tank should last you about 7500 pages and the colored ones for at least 6000 pages, and there are pretty cheap to buy as well.

The print speed is very respectable and in documents, it averages 9 ppm, with graphics and photos added to the word files it was pretty much the same but a bit lower, this is pretty good for an all-in-one printer. It has managed to print every type of content with great detail and I liked the quality overall.

1. Epson ET-3600 EcoTank

The winner of our best home printers list is definitely the ET-3600 by Epson. The Epson ET-3600 EcoTank is an amazing all-in-one printer with low running costs that will cover the initial cost of this printer in no time. It is the absolute best home printer thanks to its amazing set of features and capacity, the Epson ET-3600 EcoTank also comes with enough ink to print 11000 monochrome pages and 8500 color pages, if you require such a great printer and can afford it the Epson ET-3600 EcoTank will make it worthwhile.

The Epson ET-3600 EcoTank looks very utilitarian and conventional, the top of the device is a flat lid for its scanner and copier features. On the front panel of the device, you can find a small black and white LCD display with three text lines for information and various simple symbols, and it proved to be very convenient and useful, while it is not the best in business.

Directly underneath the control panel on the front panel is the three-stage telescopic output tray that also has the fold-over paper stop feature, and under that is the paper tray that has a capacity of up to 150 sheets of paper, which is enough for home use. On the right side of the printer you can find a bulky part that houses the four ink tanks, which is easily accessible, and changing filling the ink tanks is pretty easy, but it can get messy if you are not careful enough.

The printer can be connected with USB, Ethernet or WiFi, which offers great versatility as it can connect with various devices and proves to be very fast and convenient.

The Epson ET-3600 EcoTank has managed to print at a great speed of 13.7 pages per minute for documents, the duplexer worked pretty well and achieved 7 pages per minute. All these results are pretty good for an all-in-one printer that is dirt cheap to run. The print quality was also pretty good and provided sharp and clean texts, the picture quality was up to par too, with plenty of detail and great colors.

With its low running cost that is almost about under a cent per page, the Epson ET-3600 EcoTank is a perfect all-in-one home printer.
