Courage: The biggest fish

Tags: fear courage
It was once said by Franklin Roosevelt “The only thing we have to Fear is fear itself”. In our day to day life, we do not give attention to what courage is, or how we are being courageous in our life. The general perception in this context is that courage is a quality reserved for soldiers, firefighters, and activists. Security is what matters most today. Perhaps you were taught to avoid being too bold or too brave. It’s too dangerous. Don’t take unnecessary risks. Don’t draw attention to yourself in public. Follow family traditions. Don’t talk to strangers. Keep an eye out for suspicious people. Stay safe.

The root source of fear is childhood conditioning that caused us to experience two types of fear: the fear of failure, which causes us to think, I can’t, I can’t, I can’t; and the fear of rejection, which causes us to think, I have to, I have to, I have to. Based on these fears, we become preoccupied with the idea of losing our money, our time, our emotional investment in a relationship and our other possessions. We become hypersensitive to the opinions and possible criticisms of others, sometimes to the point where we are afraid to do anything that anyone else might disapprove of.

The person who overcomes this in his or her life is the one we know of as a person who knows to win. To achieve great heights, to go ahead in life and do something great, all we need is courage. If there is anything that stands between you and success, then that is courage to act. You have to collect it from within you and then everything will fall in place. The definition of success is different for all of us, but what lies common is that all of us have to go ahead and take that step to achieve it; and that step is courage.

Courage is not the absence of fear; every person is afraid of something or the other. Fear is ought to be there. A courageous person is the one who knows what he fears and takes the initiative to face it. To give up on something, you will find numerous excuses. What matters here is to avoid those excuses and chose to keep going instead.

There are various people you will encounter in your life who have taken on their fears and have chosen the path that requires courage. The question that lies here is that When do you realize it?

I have seen a blind man go to work regularly in Mumbai locals all alone. There are also people who have climbed mountains even after losing their legs. You can find many such stories of brave hearted people. These are the people who have not only risen above all their problems and accepted them, but have chosen not to give up because of them. They are the ones who show courage and tackle life.

Learn to say to your problems, “Not today”. Accept and master your fears, only to overcome them. Because courage is the biggest fish in this ocean of life. Here all you’ve got to do is to be courageous and you can achieve everything. Nothing is possible until you try, and once you start; nothing will be impossible. Stay motivated, Stay blessed.

Courage is rightly considered the foremost of virtues, for upon it, all others depend.
Quote by Sir Winston Churchill
