All that matters - Ownership and Responsibility

It was a usual working day in Mumbai. But the women's compartment of Virar local in the afternoon was not that packed. A Lady had occupied the window seat. There was a Woman sitting in the front seat reading a book.

The lady was hungry. She unpacked her bag bananas and started munching. After she was done eating each, she started to throw the peels below the seat. The woman reading the book observed this from the corner of the eye.

Immediately she asked the lady not to do it as the place below the seat was not a garbage bin and the place will become unhygienic. She also asked her to pick it up and throw it in some bin outside later. The lady started arguing with loud voice asking her if the train was her property.

The woman kept her book aside and told her "If you do not want to pick it up I will do it for you". She picked up the banana peels and folded it in a paper to throw later.

The lady was filled with shame and she walked away to another seat.

The feeling of responsibility and ownership towards public property is not yet seen among everyone. People should consider that the public property is for their own use and use it as their own property. Only then there will be cleanliness and others can enjoy its benefits equally. Public property is not for use and throw. We also need people to create awareness among others who do not follow this.

Not just the trains, the roads, gardens, buses are also for everyone to use and should be kept clean.

All that matters is the sense of ownership and responsibility in every individual that can help us achieve a cleaner surrounding. Every individual should maintain cleanliness and preserve environment and public health and safety.
