Mobilizing During a Catastrophe

There are numerous areas throughout the country that have extreme weather situations. When a natural Disaster Strikes, those areas need all the help they can get. It is in these times that having Trusted Partners can assist with speed of recovery and amount of homes mitigated.

No one knows when a Catastrophe is going to Strike. That being said, having a plan in place for when it does is the best preparedness a company can have. Recently, Carrara had the opportunity to come to the aid of a partner, which had done the same months earlier. Large amounts of rain, in a short period of time, lead to extreme flooding throughout areas in St. Louis, Missouri. With one phone call the mobilization process began.

The first step is to see what size of an operation is needed to mobilize, and how quickly of a time frame it can be performed in. An Operations Manager, Project Managers and Technicians are informed of the catastrophe (CAT) and plan for mobilization. Next, depending on the quantity of homes affected, equipment needs are inventoried and loaded as trucks prepare to leave for the destination. The process is planned to every detail; paper work, vehicles for managers, hotel rooms, expenses, etc. all within a couple hours time. Lastly, the team departs, heading into the storm to assist.

Upon arrival to the affected area, a meeting with the partner in need takes place. Where equipment can be housed, amount of home owners in need, average extent of damages and best course of action is discussed. The party that mobilized, in this case Carrara, operates independently while providing consistent Communication with the partner company. This is the best way to proceed, as it is the best use of the immediate increase in capacity. All jobs, scheduling, estimates, and customer communications are relayed to the home office, as if the jobs were down the street, let alone numerous states away. Communications continue with the partner until demand diminishes to manageable levels, and the company who came to help heads home.

When a disaster strikes an area, every restoration company is working around the clock to get people’s homes cleaned and back to normal. Every extra hand can help get to homes faster, thus helping customers’ pieces of mind and minimizing secondary damages. Having trusted partners not only is an asset for business, but for the most important purpose, to help the customer.
