Marin Weekend Family Fun for January 13–16

Skate on the Bay Area Discovery Museum's iceless skating rink! The museum will be open Monday for MLK Day.

Note that many of these events require advance registration and some may depend on weather conditions so make sure you check with the organizer before you go.

All Weekend

  • It's your last weekend to skate at Union Square's Holiday Ice Rink, Friday–Sunday, 10 am–11 pm.
  • Join NPS rangers for a campfire talk at Presidio Tunnel Tops, Friday–Monday, 4–4:30 pm
  • Get supplies for the Lunar New Year and enjoy live entertainment at San Francisco Chinatown's Flower Market Fair, Saturday, 10 am–6 pm & Sunday, 9 am–6 pm.

Friday, January 13

  • Get active at Flying Dutchman Gymnastics' toddler open gym in San Rafael, Friday–Saturday, 9–11 am
  • Join Iris for outdoor storytime at Fairfax Library, Friday, 10 am.
  • Learn basic computer programming, play with robots, or work on your own project at the Tiburon CoderDojo, Friday, 4–5 pm.

Saturday, January 14

  • Go on a winter birding hike at China Camp State Park in San Rafael, Saturday, 8–10 am.
  • Shop for fresh produce and locally made foods and enjoy live entertainment at the Marin Country Mart Farmers' Market, Saturday, 9 am–2 pm.
  • See the kids' movie Minions: The Rise of Gru for free at Novato Library, Saturday, 10:30 am–noon.
  • Join Mill Valley Library for Family Storytime in the Children's Room. Saturday, 3–3:30 pm.
  • Gather 'round the campfire for songs, stories, and a marshmallow roast at the Sonoma Barracks, Saturday, 6:30 pm.

Sunday, January 15

  • Take a beginner birding hike at Rodeo Lagoon in the Marin Headlands, Sunday, 9:30–11:30 am.
  • Build flexibility and strength and explore meditation at Mart Littles Yoga & Mindfulness, Sunday, 10:30–11:15 am.
  • Learn about the genius of Beethoven at a family concert with the Santa Rosa Symphony in Rohnert Park, Sunday, 3 pm.

Monday, January 16 — Martin Luther King, Jr. Day

  • Play, explore, and skate on the iceless rink at the Bay Area Discovery Museum, open on Monday for MLK Day, 10 am–4 pm.
  • Visit Muir Woods for free on MLK Day as part of the National Parks Free Entrance Days 2023. Parking and shuttle reservations and fees still apply.
  • Help clean up Point Reyes Beach for an MLK Day day of service, Monday, 12:30 pm.
