Fun Things to do in Marin and the Bay Area this Week: January 31-February 6

Keep the kiddos busy! Here's our list of fun things to do with the kids for the week of January 31–February 6. We've broken it down day-by-day with suggestions for activities, outings, events, and more that you can use to help plan out your week.

Monday, January 31

  • Make your reservations for free play at Sausalito's Playland indoor bounce house playground, Monday & Friday, 9:30 & 10:30 am; Saturday, 9 am
  • Create these fun decorative paper lanterns to celebrate the Year of the Tiger.
  • Walk, bike and play along the water at Blackie's Pasture in Tiburon.

Tuesday, February 1

  • Head to the San Francisco Zoo to learn about real tigers in the Year of the Tiger, daily starting Tuesday, 10 am–5 pm.
  • Celebrate the Year of the Tiger by making some homemade wontons.
  • Visit the de Young or Legion of Honor museums for free on the first Tuesday of the month.

Wednesday, February 2

  • Make a batch of these sweet treats — Valentine M&M cookies.
  • Shop for fresh produce and locally produced foods at the Corte Madera Farmer's Market at Town Center, noon–5 pm.
  • Bring a blanket and join Mill Valley Librarian Lauren for outdoor storytime and songs, Wednesdays, 10:15 am, Amphitheater stage behind the Library.

Thursday, February 3

  • Check out the California Academy of Sciences' new outdoor playspace, Wander Woods, open daily 9 am–5 pm.
  • Sign up for a Jumping Jacks indoor play class at the San Rafael Community Center, Thursday, 9:30-10:30 am (children crawling to 26 months) and 11 am–noon (children 26 months to 4 years).
  • Gather at the log outside Copperfields Books in Marin Country Mart for outdoor storyime, Thursday, 11 am–noon.

Celebrate the Year of the Tiger at this year's Lunar New New Festival at Terra Marin School, open to the pubic, Saturday, 10 am–noon.

Friday, February 4

  • Join Iris for an outdoor storytime with books, songs and movement, Fairfax Library (outdoors), 10–10:45 am.
  • Our picks for 12 cute Valentine's Day books to read aloud with the kids.
  • Head up to the Sonoma Plaza to picnic and play.

Saturday & Sunday, February 5 & 6

  • Help clean up litter at Rush Creek Open Space Preserve in Novato, Saturday, 9 am–noon.
  • Celebrate the Year of the Tiger at Terra School's Lunar New Year Festival, Saturday, 10 am–noon. Purchase tickets here.
  • Catch a screening of The Princess and the Frog at the Walt Disney Family Museum in the San Francisco Presidio, Saturday & Sunday, 11 am
  • Plan a visit to Tilden Park in Berkeley for the Little Farm, historic merry-go-round, stream trains, and more. Open daily.
  • Grab lunch at a food truck at the Marin Country Mart, Larkspur Landing, Sunday, 11 am–3 pm.
