Fun Things to do in Marin and the Bay Area this Week: August 23–29

Keep the kiddos busy! Here's out list of fun things to do with the kids for the week of August 23–29. We've broken it down day-by-day with suggestions for activities, outings, events, and more that you can use to help plan out your week.

Keep in mind that some of these activities require advance registration, so check the organizer's website before you attend. If you have something fun you'd like to share, please let us know and we'll consider it for next week's list!

Monday, August 23

  • Go swing, climb, play and picnic at Marinwood Park in San Rafael.
  • Create a magical metamorphosis (caterpillar to butterfly) craft with the Cal Academy.
  • Learn about pirates with online Pint-Size Storytime presented by the San Rafael Public Library.
  • Have the kids help make a pot of tasty chicken pozole verde.

Tuesday, August 24

  • Sign-up for one of the many fall music classes for the kiddos in Marin.
  • See if you can spot a grizzly bear at the live cam at the Oakland Zoo.
  • Explore, hike and picnic at the beautiful Jack London State Historic Park in Glen Ellen, open daily, 9 am–5 pm.
  • Shop for fresh produce at this week's Novato Farmer's Market, Tuesday, 4–8 pm.

Wednesday, August 25

  • Reserve your spot at The Gravity Vault Marin indoor rock climbing gym in San Rafael, 9 am–6 pm.
  • Bring a blanket and join Mill Valley Librarian Lauren for outdoor storytime and songs, Wednesdays at 10:15 am, Amphitheater stage behind the Library.
  • Have a fun tea party! Make a batch of English-style scones for a proper afternoon tea.
  • Play at the beach and bubble garden at the Bay Area Discovey Museum in Sausalito, Wednesday–Sunday, 9 am– 4pm.

Thursday, August 26

  • Play at the beach and have a picnic at McNear's Beach in San Rafael, 7 am–7 pm.
  • The Sausalito Library presents Online Stories and Songs: Bear Has a Story to Tell.
  • Vist the 20,000 marine animals at San Francisco's Aquarium of the Bay at Pier 39.
  • The Lark Drive In screens Trolls World Tour at the Village in Corte Madera. 8:10 pm.

Friday, August 27

  • Bonjour, it's time for storytime with Emilia! Join her for stories, songs, and rhymes in French on YouTube.
  • Visit Marin Country Mart in Larkspur for Movie Nights at the Mart: Finding Nemo, 6 pm.
  • Grab your low chairs or blankets as the free Jazz and Blues by the Bay presents Eugene Huggins & Friends at Gabrielson Park in Sausalito, 6:30 pm.
  • Take a "Road Trip" with Transcendence Theatre Company at Jack London State Historic Park in Glen Ellen. 7:30 pm
  • See How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World outdoors for free in San Rafael's Gerstle Park. 8 pm

Play at the beach and bubble garden at the Bay Area Discovey Museum in Sausalito, Wednesday–Sunday, 9 am– 4pm.

Saturday, August 28

  • Circus Bella brings its free show, "Humorous" to Yerba Buena Gardens in San Francisco, noon and 2:15 pm
  • Learn with Storytime Science for Kids at the Exploratorium, Saturday & Sunday, noon & 2 pm.
  • Experience Shakespeare's Twelfth Night in Old Mill Park with a free performance from the Curtain Theatre. Saturday & Sunday, 2 pm.
  • Careless Whisper presents a free concert at Novato's Hot Amphitheater Nights. 5 pm
  • The Lark Drive In screens The LEGO Batman Movie at the Village in Corte Madera. 8:10 pm.

Sunday, August 29

  • Shop for fresh produce at Sunday's Civic Center Marin Farmers Market, 8 am–1 pm.
  • Grab lunch at a food truck at the Marin Country Mart, Larkspur Landing, Sunday, 11 am–3 pm.
  • Enjoy a free live concert at Corte Madera's Piccolo Pavilion with Bubba's Taxi. 5–6:30 pm.
