Fun Things to do in Marin and the Bay Area this Week: August 16-22

Take a walk or bike at Indian Valley Open Space Preserve in Novato.

Keep the kiddos busy! Here's out list of fun things to do with the kids for the week of August 16–22. We've broken it down day-by-day with suggestions for activities, outings, events, and more that you can use to help plan out your week.

Keep in mind that some of these activities require advance registration, so check the organizer's website before you attend. If you have something fun you'd like to share, please let us know and we'll consider it for next week's list!

Monday, August 16

  • Join the Fairfax Library for a family storytime for ages 0–5,10–11 am
  • Take a walk or bike ride Indian Valley Open Space Preserve in Novato.
  • Bake a yummy chocolate chip skillet cookie.

Tuesday, August 17

  • Make a own silly putty with PBS Kids.
  • Explore the Presidio and Crissy Field in San Francisco.
  • Bonjour, it's time for storytime with Emilia! Join her for stories, songs, and rhymes in French on YouTube.

Wednesday, August 18

  • Learn dance moves from around the world at the Bay Area Discovery Museum's new Dance Studio! Wednesday–Sunday, 9 am–4 pm
  • Lean to skate at Snoopy's Home Ice with Toddlers on Ice, 11 am–noon
  • Shop for fresh produce & locally produced foods at the Corte Madera Farmer's Market at Town Center, noon–5 pm.

Thursday, August 19

  • Visit Monterey Bay Aquarium's cool sea otter cam with live narrated feedings daily at 1:30 pm.
  • Get the kids in the kitchen to help make some delicous homemade bagels.
  • The Lark Drive In screens Disney's The Lion King at the Village in Corte Madera, 8:20 pm.

Friday, August 20

  • Take the kiddos out to one of the many awesome ice cream shops in Marin and the North Bay.
  • Visit Marin Country Mart in Larkspur for Movie Nights at the Mart: The Incredibles, 6 pm.
  • Grab your low chairs or blankets as the free Jazz and Blues by the Bay presents Pamela Rose at Gabrielson Park in Sausalito, 6:30 pm.
  • Head to the Sonoma-Marin Fairgrounds in Petaluma for a drive-in movie: Grease, 8 pm.

Saturday, August 21

  • Celebrate the 19th anniversary of the Charles M. Schulz Museum with Snoopy and Charlie Brown. Saturday, 10 am–1 pm.
  • Learn with Storytime Science for Kids at the Exploratorium, Saturday & Sunday, noon–2 pm.
  • Experience Shakespeare's Twelfth Night in Old Mill Park with a free performance from the Curtain Theatre. Saturday & Sunday, 2 pm.
  • Enjoy a free concert on Novato's Civic Green with Simon Lunche. 5–7 pm.
  • The Lark Drive In screens Pixar's Finding Nemo at the Village in Corte Madera. 8:20 pm.

Sunday, August 22

  • Shop for fresh produce at Sunday's Civic Center Marin Farmers Market, 8 am–1 pm.
  • Reserve your spot at The Gravity Vault Marin indoor rock climbing gym in San Rafael, 9 am–6 pm.
  • Grab lunch at a food truck at the Marin Country Mart, Larkspur Landing, Sunday, 11 am–3 pm.
  • Enjoy a free live concert at Corte Madera's Piccolo Pavilion with Bubba's Taxi. 5–6:30 pm.
