Film Review and Giveaway: "Nezha," an Internationally Acclaimed, Animated, Fantasy-Adventure Movie

About the movie:
A young boy, Nezha, is birthed from a heavenly pearl by the Primeval Lord of Heaven. Born with unique powers, Nezha finds himself as an outcast who is hated and feared. Destined by prophecy to bring destruction to the world, the young boy must choose between good and evil in order to break the shackles of fate and become the hero.

One of the biggest successes in the history of animation and Chinese cinema, the internationally acclaimed animated fantasy-adventure Nezha weaves it magic on digital February 25 and on DVD, Blu-ray Combo and 4K Ultra Blu-ray Combo March 3 from Well Go USA Entertainment. First-time feature film director Jiaozi brings to the screen the enchanting story of a boy with unique powers who is recruited to fight demons and save the community that initially fears him. Nezha is the first animated film selected as the Chinese entry for Best International Feature Film at the 92nd Academy Awards.

Movie review by D.T.:
The story of Nezha is full of unique twists and turns on a cosmic level. The boy himself, Nezha, is a product of fate and trickery. Treacherously imbued with the “demon” half of a powerful relic at birth, he would be anything but normal. What’s more, the relic is cursed to be destroyed in three years so that it will not destroy the world. Unfortunately, this will destroy the boy, as well. However, his loving parents and his mentor, Taiyi, are determined to give Nezha a chance. Bound by another holy relic, the demon part of him is suppressed, and Nezha spends years learning to be a champion of the people. Through a series of culminating events, he learns to embrace the love those closest to him have been trying to show him for years. When it matters most, Nezha chooses to make his own fate and fight for those he loves.

Although epic in scale and story, the movie is also quite funny. With slapstick moments, one-liners, and a bit of potty humor that will leave you and your kids laughing, it is surprising that the movie has time for all of its developments. The characters are all memorable, too. Both of Nezha’s parents do their best, parenting in their own ways. His mentor, Taiyi, is chubby, lovable and caring in every way. Even the villains have their quirks, from stuttering to horns, and I never found myself trying to remember a name or being overwhelmed by the amount going on. It is a fun, action-packed movie that teaches a lesson many people need to hear: You are more than what you are born into, and you should aim to be the best person that you can, both for yourself and for those you love… even if you are a demon child who likes to destroy things.
