To celebrate International Fragrance Day, we’ve decided to compile a post that sheds some truth on the perfume industry and provide you with safe alternatives that smell absolutely terrific! Read on…

There’s just something special about perfumes and fragrances. One whiff of a certain scent and your mind can be taken back to a distant memory you’d otherwise have forgotten. Sort of like when you smell those Mr. Sketch markers and are instantly transported into the halls of your Pre-K classroom, smiling and giggling without a care in the world. There are so many terrific things that smells can do for us, but there’s a darker truth lingering in the background of most perfumes/fragrances: chemicals.

With that said, luckily there is a way out of the mainstream loophole and into the world of pure, organic loveliness. What is it, you ask? Making your own perfumes! While we love essential oils in our diffusers, we equally love them blended up into timeless scents that will create newfound memories for us. So here are three DIY scents that will have both you and your mind at ease:

Strawberry Fields Forever

Okay, this may not have any actual strawberries involved but this perfume can be something straight out of the 1960’s with its delicious blend of timeless scents. You’ll feel like you transported yourself back to a peaceful protest full of excitement and political reveries. Here’s how to make it:

Top Note: 4 drops Tangerine 100% Pure Essential Oil

Base Note:10 drops Patchouli Light 100% Pure Essential Oil

Middle Note: 6 drops Ylang Ylang Extra 100% Pure Essential Oil

Mix the 20 drops of essential oil into 3 mL of Jojoba Oil (aka your carrier oil). Shake together in an amber dropper bottle. Let sit for a few days.

Sweetest Symphony

Are you someone who loves smelling clean and fresh? Not really a floral person, but rather someone who likes a sensible scent that is classic? Then you’ll definitely find your favorite new scent with this perfume blend. Here’s how to make it:

Top Note: 4 drops Lavender 100% Pure Essential Oil

Base Note:10 drops Vanilla 100% Pure Essential Oil

Middle Note: 6 drops Rose Absolute 100% Pure Essential Oil

Mix the 20 drops of essential oil into 3 mL of Jojoba Oil (aka your carrier oil). Shake together in an amber dropper bottle. Let sit for a few days.

Free Spirit

Are you a lover of travel or someone who can just get up and go where the wind takes you? If so, you’ll find that this carefree scent matches you perfectly. Here’s how to make it:

Top Note: 4 drops Grapefruit (Pink) 100% Pure Essential Oil

Base Note:10 drops Cinnamon Leaf 100% Pure Essential Oil

Middle Note: 6 drops Jasmine Absolute 100% Pure Essential Oil

Mix the 20 drops of essential oil into 3 mL of Jojoba Oil (aka your carrier oil). Shake together in an amber dropper bottle. Let sit for a few days.

While these are just three blends we concocted, there are limitless ways to create the perfect scent for yourself! Get creative and check out all of our essential oils to find the perfect pairings for an individualized perfume. (See, isn’t that so much better than smelling like everyone else using mainstream perfume?).
