Calming Retreat at Caleruega, Tagaytay

Rounding up the “Tagaytay Trio” (Sonya’s Garden and Antonio’s Restaurant) is Caleruega (link: https://www.facebook.com/Caleruega-Philippines-297176393659680/), a retreat place which houses the Transfiguration Chapel, a favorite venue for intimate weddings.

Owned by the Dominican Order of Preachers, Caleruega is named after a town in Castile-Leon, Spain, where Saint Dominic (founder of the aforementioned Dominican order) was born. It is not situated in the Tagaytay City proper; rather, it is found just around the border of Cavite and Batangas. It is, however, just a short 20 minute drive from Tagaytay.

Caleruega is ideal not only for weddings and retreats, but also for travelers who long for fresh air, a scenic view and a Calming place perfect for rediscovering your spirituality and clearing the mind. It is an idyllic venue surrounded by nature’s beauty, and filled with flowering greens and trees in its well-maintained gardens.

Be prepared for much walking and stair climbing upon your visit, as the place is adapted to match the mountainous areas it occupies. They have various koi ponds, a hanging bridge, and a hill where kids (and kids-at-heart) can roam around freely. Weather can get pretty chilly, especially during “-ber” months, but I believe it only adds to that Wonderful nature experience one wouldn’t otherwise experience in the city.

There is a minimal fee upon entrance, and if you’re just going there for a short day trip, there is no need for prior reservation.
